I had all sorts of meta to talk about but then this Diaochan/Lu Bu scene happened in ep 8 and everything flew out of my head. You should have seen me, hiding in the bathroom at 5:30 am (so as not to wake up family), making animal noises at my screen and weird hand gestures and then sniffling like a lunatic with consumption.
He came to bring a gift for her birthday (a birthday her own father forgot, I might add).
What really kills me is the way he looks at her, with all his soul in his eyes. What really kills me in a bad way is Minister's satisfied self. Normally he'd want Chancellor's adopted son as his daughter's suitor like I would the plague. What are you scheming, sir? I am unhealthily attached to this OTP, don't harm them, pls!
Then the Minister leaves and Diaochan and Lu Bu are left alone, and she starts pouring him wine.
Cannot. Breathe.
Aw, he thinks he offended her and that she doesn't like him! (I ship them so much because he's almost an entirely different person with her - uncertain, gentle and very human. So different from his usual arrogant ruthless war machine vibe). You know, the medieval chivalric vibe of it all so hits every fictional kink I didn't even know I had. (Yes, I realize, medieval isn't the accurate term for 2nd century China but in my head this is what it feels like).
She corrects him. Awwww, puppies!
And then she tells him her secret. This is huuuuge. She's literally placing her life in his hands because if he mentions this to anyone, she's executed in a second. That's a hell of a lot of trust. I mean - she's basically a public enemy by standards of that society and he could really get wrecked if her identity/his knowledge and lack of reporting will come out later.
No wonder she always feels she owes her adoptive father so much.
She is so very awesome.
OMG, his reaction. Am dead. It's interesting - earlier he picked protecting/saving her in battle over guarding the Emperor as per Chancellor's orders, and now his reaction to her confession is to apologize to her and declare himself unworthy, not reporting her or at the very least retracting his admiration. Minister's scheming, whatever it is, may end up being very effective because he clearly values her above everything, literally.
She's putting his well-being above concern for her own life. Ah, OTP, why so perfect>
Holy...!!!! The thing is, this is the second time he promised her that. It's a hell of a romantic comment, and is seemingly this ship's motto but the reverse is pretty scary - it's civil war, he's a general. If he dies, what then? Doomed doomed OTP, that's what.
BEST DRAMA CONFESSION OF LOVE/MARRIAGE PROPOSAL EVER. No arguments pls.
*gibber gibber gibber*
And then I turned off the ep and decided to take a little break. I know period cdramas - seeing how perfect and happy they are together, I just know something really awful is coming and I want to put it off a little longer. I am officially a wimp. Also, Baby Mousie is about to get up. Let's see how I cope on almost no sleep but plenty of fiction-induced adrenaline.
