Spirit of the Sword (2007)
I really want to watch Wallace Huo's Iljimae but it's not out yet. Still, it gave me quite a craving for period/wuxia cdramas.
After careful consideration (careful consideration = looking at MVs and seeing which of them had hot people and production values which did not make the drama look as if it was filmed in the producer's basement), I settled on 2007 Spirit of the Sword which features two hunky warriors, two tough ladies, two love stories, a lot of swordfights and even more angst. I was especially influenced by the fact that the lead was played by Nicholas Tse for whom I have quite an irrational fondness. I am not crazy enough to think he's a good actor, but the guy is gorgeous, angsts well, and looks completely at home in period clothes and with a sword. I have seen complaints from purists that this drama does not adhere to the novel it's based on at all (the main character in this is a minor character in the book) but as I've never read the book, I don't care. I have also seen complaints that too much time is devoted to the love stories, to which I say, bring it on!
