The Myth - favorite scenes

Aug 11, 2010 00:06

I've been rewatching The Myth and, yes, it is still my favorite drama ever and one of my favorite works of fiction, period. I have never seen anything like it before or since. Have a general, nonspoilery MV.

It also has some amazing scenes and I, always list-conscious, wanted to make a list of my Top 15 scenes.

1. Xiao Chuan, enslaved and made to kneel in the marketplace, first sees Yu Shu who looks almost as if she is descending from heaven, and he is struck dumb.

2. Lao Gao, after he has been made a eunuch, wows to be the most powerful one ever to compensate for his loss and pain.

3. Xiong Yu and Xiao Yue's death scene on the battlefield. I had snot running out my nose for this and I ended up almost puking, I was crying so hard. When she tells him she is not ready to go because she has not seen enough of him yet, and he holds her in his arms and howls. And then gives her body to Xiao Chuan and makes that insane, impossible last stand.

4. Peng and the Nomad Girl reaffirming their love for each other in the middle of battle. In which they are fighting on opposing sides.

5. Xiao Chuan and Lao Gao discover GL is indeed the infamous person from history who has destroyed the Qing. And XC's terrified reaction he is going to lose his friend and LG's rejoicing that he will be powerful enough not to ever get hurt.

6. The Noble Clan is about to be disbanded and dragged for interrogation (i.e. torture) by Lao Gao. Xiao Chuan arrives there, trying to get them to surrender quietly so they will at least have some chance at survival and not be killed by Lao Gao's forces. And the Clan members point out that as high official and aristocrat and not a member of the Clan, it is easy for him to say so. So to save these utter strangers, he asks them to bring the membership roll. And adds his name. As the walls are about to be battered down and membership means certain torture. Because he cannot let them die. And then he walks out and when Lao Gao tells him he is letting him go because he is not a member he unrolls the scroll. Oh God. That is actually my favorite scene in the drama.

7. Arising of 7 actually. Lao Gao torturing the members (in such a bored fashion, being massaged by a flunkie while people in front of him are being flayed) and then they bring in Xiao Chuan for questioning. And it's such an ugly, horrible, intense scene.

8. Qing Emperor's death scene - when he begs Yu Shu to help him to get the pill to save him and promises her anything. And she looks at him and asks him to return her kingdom, her parents, and Xiao Chuan. And walks off, leaving him to crawl and die on the floor.

9. Yu Shu comes to Xiao Chuan's house after she has blackmailed Lao Gao to get Xiao Chuan out of the torture chambers. OMG. Perfect.

10. Xiao Chuan having his breakdown in front of Meng Tian's shrine - about how his taking on the responsibility Meng Tian thrust on him only led to more deaths.

11. The victory parade of Xiao Chuan to the Qing Emperor's palace.

12. The cave - when Lu Zhi incapacitates Xiao Chuan and makes Yu Shu walk in to her death to save him, all the while whispering to Xiao Chuan, who can't move and speak, that of course she would never kill him but Yu Shu does not know that.

13. This:

14. Xiao Chuan cures Yu Shu from the plague. It is the most amazing swoonworthy thing ever. Especially when he confesses, broken, that he can sacrifice his life for others, but when it comes to her life, he will sacrifice anything and anyone.

15. That horrible, bitter ending. Somehow it made perfect sense.

OK, I could be here all night (I did not even bring up the scene where XC realizes SuSu is dead). Let me stop at 15.
