Yes, I am still obsessed with Someday. Am through ep 11 and it's so so so very good.
A few quick thoughts:
* Even though it is nothing like Mars in most ways, it does remind me of it in one way - when we meet our protagonists you realize that the heroine is messed-up, visibly so, right away, but are impressed by how well the hero seems to be holding up under his situation - in fact it's amazing that he can do so well. And then as it goes on, you realize that he's the one who's truly broken.
* Episode 10 did the same thing ep 7 did only times a million - lured me in with its delicious sweetness, made me relax and smile and awww and then - pull the rug from under me, and then while I am still lying there, kick me in the ribs a few times with nailed boots. It's just - I still think that Seokman needed that meltdown - his 'I am so happy all the time despite the horribleness of my life, and am also happy in my worthlessness' state was NOT a good thing but - I mean - fhfrjfjdfjsksk - ajiurjfkdels. He is officially the most messed-up kdrama lead I have come across. I mean, breaking down artificial internal barriers is all well and good but not if that barrier was the only thing keeping him from killing himself! Eps 10 and 11 were pretty brutal. Especially because of how guilty he feels that he wants to live, that he botches his suicide attempt(s). It's just - you're 22! You're just a kid! It wasn't your fault and you have survivor guilt and I just want to fix you!
* Go is the character I have most mixed-up feelings about. On one hand, he's mature and not screwed-up (unlike Seokman and Hana) but OTOH his manipulativeness is creeping me out - when a man 10 years older than the woman tells her "I know you better than you know yourself" while doing things without asking her first - I get bristly. Don't even get me started on the proposal - people who do it in public (unless they've been dating a long time and know the girl will say yes for sure) are crass to do it in a public place because it puts pressure on the recipient. Also, I think Go is deluded - suppose by some miracle her got Hana to reciprocate - so what? Except for Go loving her drawings, they have nothing in common interest or personality-wise. That relationship would be doomed for disaster. It is all the more frustrating because he has Haeyoung by his side, who is his equal, his best friend, and someone who loves him but he is so busy pursuing his cloud castle with Hana, he is blind to it.
* I love Hana more and more. In some ways, she is the smartest, most straightforward when it comes to dealing with love - she denied its existence (due to family history) but once she decides to let it in, she is fearless and right - she has her head screwed on incredibly straight, yet at the same time she is like a space alien exploring earth - mixed in with her love for Seokman is a puzzlement and exploratory behavior of someone who's seen something utterly new. Also, despite the fact that Seokman needs therapy like there is no tomorrow, they are so very compatible and bring out the best in each other - he is the one responsible for her thaw and becoming a human being (and I love that she doesn't become a human being because of love - that would be trite and silly - no, she becomes a human being because of wonder and fun and friendship Seokman brings with him - and it's that initial thaw that enables her to fall in love) and she is the one who enables him to want something for himself and to be happy for the first time since the accident (when he mentions this is the first time since then he can sleep through the night - that's huge).
* I do love that the drama points head on that it's not just romantic for someone to be someone else's sole reason for living - the way Hana is the reason Seokman doesn't kill himself post the whole thing with Jinwook in ep 10 and the way he tells Jinwook's family he wants to live because of her. No, what it is, is dysfunctional - a symptom of not so good things - because if that is the only thing keeping you alive, it means everything else in your life must be awful - you must have no intrinsic self-worth or happiness. So I love that the drama really shows that. Yes, I love that Seokman loves Hana (his love literally saves him from death, whoa), but he needs to get better psychically if she is literally his sole reason for living. I want him to love her just as much as he does now, but I want him to be healed enough so he won't die/drift into utter despair if he doesn't have her! I am not that keen on Go, but while he would be upset if Hana turned him down, he would go on to live a happy life after a while. That is healthy.
* Hana's drawings - I love them (she let Seokman erase her pencil lines too - heee - she is so possessive of her drawings). I also love that she's basing that manga lead on Seokman. Awwwwww. (The bit where he sees she fell asleep on the floor with her sketchbook and covers her up with a blanket and then he flips through her sketches and sees it and his face - and then he cuddles up to her - I melted a billion different ways).
OK, these are getting super long.
someday,
