Have started True Blood and it is most entertaining, in a vaguely trashy way. - will definitely keep going. Two points though, either one of which is probably going to be unpopular

Hee! You are watching! The sex is toned down a lot after the first few episodes, so don't worry... :)
And I liked Bill a lot in the beginning, too - there is just something about how he starts treating Sookie later that bothers me. Too possessive by a long ways. I'll be curious to know what you think after S1!

WORD. I totally thought bill was fine at first. but after a while I was just like "wow he's kind of a jerk". I guess it helps I didnt read the books so I had no preconcieved biases going into it.
LOL! I couldn't get into the books at all - way too much like romance novels for my tastes and Bill reminds me a lot of those domineering romance novel heroes.
Eric does become a lot more sympathetic in S2 - he reminds me a lot of Logan from Veronica Mars actually. At first you're all "Ew! Why does everybody like that guy?" and then you have 8,000 Logan icons the next day. ;
Not that I speak from personal experience or anything... ;P
1. This actually is toned down a huge amount in the second season and most graphic of the seasons end mid season of S1. So you wont have to deal with them for much longer. they are annoying though I do enjoy seeing ryan kwanten shirtless all the time heh.
2. I think the thing that puts off alot of people about bill/sookie is his attitude towards sookie, more prevalent in later eps but honestly TV!bill isnt that bad, chauvinistic yes but not anywhere as terrible as his book counterpart IMO. I think Eric becomes much more compelling in S2 as a character. In S1 he's really just a glorified extra. I dont know if I'd say I have a thing for Eric (he's kind of a huge dick, in fact most of the men on the show are except lovely Sam) but I definitely have a thing for the actor, Alexander Skarsgaard.
Chauvinistic never bugged me in fiction - I come from chauvinistic culture in rl so am used to that sort of thing even if wouldn't want to it for myself.
nono, I totally ship Bill/Sookie too! and you know I had the same response re the graphic, idiotic sex scenes:) what everyone else is saying is true - they start getting pared down later, though the violence remains as far as I could tell(I took a break midway through s1 because soo much violence and darkness and sexual overtones).
apparently season 2 Eric gets awesome or something and I think he might have been the OTP in the books? That's the only reason I can think of for why he's the popular OTP.
I started developing all the usual symptoms of shipping but as I wasn't in the mood to have my heart broken by another UC couple I dropped the show and watched Gossip Girl instead.
