Have finished ep 2 of City Hall and it's pretty entertaining. It's no Worlds Within (but then what is?) and I am not in love with the characters yet either, but it's keeping me entertained, which is impressive enough.
I like Mi Rae, the heroine:
She is sort of a Korean Bridget Jones. She does fall into the cutely clumsy heroine subcategory which is not my thing, especially when contrasted with an ambitious, competent Joon Young (Worlds Within) but she does seem determined and uncowery and I know that Joon Youngs are far and few between in kdramas (or most other dramas - I really should try to compile a list). Now, if they'd ease up on the 'cutesy' humiliation comedy, we'll be good.
And Jo Gook, the hero, even though physically not my type, is a very entertaining type of character - cynical, pragmatic young politician on the make. Plus, apparently with the requisite FUBAR history! His father ditched him and his Mother on the street with a wad of cash!
He apparently spent his childhood in a seedy sex-trade-oriented bar (presumably with his Mom???). That will instill good family values, I bet!
Anyway, I am not in love with the drama and all the characters except for two main ones are not interesting in the least (if the secondary guy is who I think he is, oh God, is he boring!) but it's fun and managed to actually be watchable after my obsession with Worlds Within made almost any other drama unendurable to me for not being WW. Probably because it's very low-key.
Which ain't bad at all.
