Byakuyakou: thoughts on episode 2 - not spoilery

Apr 07, 2009 00:09

I have finished episode 2 of Byakuyakou and it's official: I love that drama!

And you know, the OTP of this is so very much my thing, so incredibly messed up! And it makes sense they are so drawn to each other - not only was the other person the one big bright thing in their childhood (especially true for child abuse victim Yuki), and they have committed a big sacrifice/sin for the other person so the other person HAS to be worth it, in their mind, but also the other person is the only being with whom they can really be themselves, who knows about the murder(s).

Also, their reunion scene made me a bit sniffly. Trust me to ship a couple of murderers!

And this brings me to one thing - granted, I am no Japanese lawyer, but the way they live their lives in hopes of the 15-yr statute of limitations expiring so they can be together drives me bonkers. Not at them - they are traumatized (currently) 18-yr olds who need years of therapy before they can function. But at the idea! Once again, I don't know Japanese law, but I cannot imagine any court in the US severely punishing Ryo for committing at 11 a completely unpremediated murder of a man who was in the process of raping another 11-yr old; or punishing Yuki for helping him hide the fact when she was the child rapist's victim or even for the fact that she tried to do a murder-suicide with her Mom who was the one who used to sell her to be raped. I mean, honest! The publicity alone for that case would be horrific for any prosecutor who pushed for a stiff sentence.
