I have been away from this place for a while. Briefly, here are some things I would like to highlight:
NBC premiered the show Kings last Sunday, which is an alternate-modern-day retelling of the biblical story of David and King Saul. I watched it earlier this week, and I think it is fantastic. It has some flaws, to be sure, but it also displays a kind of hubris-like ambition that is almost unheard of on network TV. I strongly recommend you watch, which you can do
here for free and in 480p.
It has Ian McShane in it. That alone should warrant your interest.
I have mentioned before that I think R. Scott Bakker's Prince of Nothing trilogy is some of the finest genre writing I've ever read. The first book in his second trilogy in the same world, The Judging Eye, is now out, which reminds me that too much time has passed since I recommend that all of you go and read The Darkness That Comes Before. Get it
here. You won't regret it, even if you don't like fantasy novels (I've hated almost every fantasy novel I've ever been exposed to, but I love Bakker's work.
