Unattended pants shut down City of Toronto

Jul 19, 2006 22:10

Several blocks of downtown Toronto were shut down today after a suspicious package was spotted by a construction worker. The package, discovered around noon in the Financial District, was said to have a note attached which possibly referenced the Taliban. After the busy area was closed for almost two hours, the bomb squad arrived to deal with the package.

It turned out to be a pair of pants in a plastic bag.

Police have yet to release further details about the pants or the mysterious note that was allegedly attached to the package, and reports of the wording of the note, or if one actually existed, cannot be confirmed. Local office workers who were forced to evacuate have been allowed to return to work and the streets are open once more.

At this time, pants manufactures have declined comment about the incident, and no person in only his or her underwear has come forward to claim responsibility.
