Most people would describe themselves as friendly, but what most people don't realize s that there are different types of friendliness.
The kind of friendliness I don't like is the kind that is uncreative. Friendly people of this type say 'good times' a lot. The respond to every little remark with a kind of stock, half-real, mass-produced chuckle. They tend to pollute the room with cheap words, even when they are sincere. When all is said and done, they end up talking more about themselves than anything else.
The type of friendliness I like and try to emulate is the kind that is always creative, somehow one-of-a-kind. Friendly people of this type express their originality through a peculiar form of charm, hand-made gifts (e.g., handwritten cards, retractable spoons, cookies, drawings), an endearing smile, or a cool accent. They never make up words like 'coolness' 'awesomeness', they save their high fives for people 8 and under, and when they speak they somehow can lift everyone's spirits without contributing to word inflation or using bad grammar. They can tell a good joke, but they also know how to listen.
