Happy 60th Birthday to Sir Antony Sher: actor, writer and artist. I have followed the career of this very special man for nearly 30 years, since seeing him play Howard Kirk in The History Man on television. Since then I have watched him on stage and screen, bought his books, listened to him on the radio, and seen his art exhibitions. I have also had the great pleasure of meeting him and his partner Greg Doran several times.
There's something of a celebration at the National Theatre at the moment, with an exhibition of his paintings and drawings at the Lyttelton. The centrepiece is The Audience, and autobiographical painting featuring people who have influenced Antony's life. The exhibition runs until 27 June.
As if that's not enough, Antony will be "in conversation" with Sue MacGregor at the Lyttelton on 20 June.
