should have shoved you off the path instead
Infinite
Hoya/Woohyun || Friendship || PG
They're jogging partners according to Howon, but Woohyun's being a retard [again]
A/N: Predebut fic, a part of me recalls Infinite having to jog in the morning to build stamina or something. I don't really remember the exact details, but it should work even if it's purely fictional?
“I just can’t take this anymore…” Woohyun cried out as his legs give away, his entire frame falling forward onto the grass, morning dew and moisture tarnishing his shorts.
Howon was taken surprise, because no matter how many laps they had to run, Woohyun and him stuck together until they finished. Sungjong and Sunggyu always stopped less than halfway, simply given the lack of physical capabilities. Myungsoo held his own for a while, set his own pace and working in his own rhythm. Howon was the better sprinter, but Woohyun could do longer distances. To see his friend kneeling on the ground made him worry, because something was wrong.
“It’s just.. so tough….” Howon froze because Woohyun was crying. Woohyun never cries, everyone else cries because they’re honestly still kids, young teenagers trying to grow up, but Woohyun was mentally older, more prepared for the spiteful wind and vengeful currents of the entertainment industry.
“W-woohyun, hey…” Howon was seldom good with his words, being raised up as the middle child. He definitely wasn’t neglected; he was just given more freedom than his brothers.
“I want to quit…”
“You can’t quit…”
“They keep telling me I need to work harder on my breathing, and I’m trying, I’m trying, Howon-ah...” Woohyun sobs between breaths. “I’m trying so hard, I sing and practice, I sing while we dance, I just can’t do this…”
“Take it easy on yourself, why are you-“
“Because I’m not good enough. I’ll never be good enough.”
“Hey, don’t say that…” Howon winced at his own words of comfort which seemed awfully hard on the ear.
“You’re really bad at this, aren’t you?”
“Kinda, just not used to having to deal with these things. I’m sorry.” Fuck my life, why can’t he just be normal again.
Woohyun merely smiles, and Howon’s still nervous because he probably said the wrong thing, and he’s definitely not the person to have a heart to heart talk with because he’s still uncomfortable, not particularly with Woohyun, because that was quite the opposite, but he just wasn’t a talker.
“Whatever…” Woohyun gets back up and brushes his knees half-heartedly. “Y-You should talk more… it’ll help us get to know you…”
“I don’t like talking…” You’re all so loud, after you’re done talking, there’s nothing left to say.
There’s that sparkle back in Woohyun’s eyes and Howon automatically looks away because it’s awkward. The sparkle that glitters whenever he sings, or talks animatedly about random tidbits (because he claims he’s very knowledgeable and wise), or when he just has that stupid grin on his face that makes Howon want to punch him. Violence was always a viable option when it came to Woohyun’s annoying acts of cuteness, whether their managers approve of it or not (Howon doesn’t know that their managers are thankful and going to temples to do charity work).
“That’s gotta change then.” Woohyun tugs on his wrist, his hand wet but warm, and that warm, plesant feeling starts bubbling up inside Howon again. “Start talking more, Howon-ah, you can’t always be so closed off.”
Howon brushes it off and starts jogging again. A bead of sweat rolled down his forehead when he flinches from something coming for him. Sudden movements within his periphery vision weren’t favourable, he was actually annoyed whenever anyone tried to reach into his personal space.
“Relax… I’m not going to attack you.” Woohyun whispered as his sleeve brushed against his forehead, and Howon’s feet seemed to stop by themselves. His whole body tensed while Woohyun padded his forehead gently.
“Why are you laughing..” Howon accuses when he opens his eyes to see Woohyun grinning at him.
“You’re kinda cute when you’re all genuine and surprised like that…”
“Go to hell, Woohyun…”
“I wouldn’t mind if you came with me.”
Howon cringed and shuddered.
