“Hyuk-ah, do you know that feeling, like... you just want to be with someone?”

“You know, Hae, I would appreciate you more if you stop all the fucking teasing, it gets annoying.”

“No, I’m not talking about you.”

“Your eyes gave you away, stop making fun of us, okay?”

“I swear. Don’t give me that look, just because I’m laughing doesn’t mean I’m lying...”

“Yeah, sure, right, Lee Dong Hae.”

“Did you really have to emphasize the Hae? Lee Hyuk Jae.”

“Why are we friends again?”

“No, but seriously, do you know that feeling.”

“STOP TALKING ABOUT ME AND SUNGMIN. GOD. WILL. YOU. STOP. IT?”

“B-but I wasn’t-”

Eunhyuk gave him that stare again, the stare that basically said ‘stop lying, Donghae, I read you like a book’. That was when Donghae gave up, and as much as he wanted to argue, he eventually gave up because  he got tangled in his own words, and Eunhyuk would just leave him alone.

Donghae scurried out and sat quietly in the spinning chair, rotating around like a small child, as he watched Yesung on the sofa.

“Hyung.”

Yesung turned his head in sheer annoyance and saw Donghae spinning around, the chair making small squeaking noises whenever it hit a certain point in the rotation.

“Did you ever.”

Yesung closed his eyes.

“Wonder how you.”

He twiddled with his fingers twice.

“Fell in love.”

Yesung arched an eyebrow, his small eyes turning into slits as he squinted at the younger boy.

“With Kangin.”

“Stop.”

“You guys just.”

“I said stop.”

“Seem so different.”

“Donghae.” Yesung glared at him, his bangs drapping over his forehead, covering the fire raging in his dark pupils.

“You guys just seemed so distinct from one another, and”

Suddenly the chair stopped twirling as Donghae tried spinning it, against his control. Yesung was towering over him, glaring daggers down at the boy.

“I said stop.”

Donghae gulped and nodded meekly, immediately hopping off the chair and out the door. Heechul and Ryeowook were going to be furious, Heechul’s now dying flowers and Ryeowook’s shattered vase went unnoticed by the eccentric dancer and the quirky singer.

Donghae left the dorm, an angry Yesung was definitely something he didn’t want to deal with, let alone an angry Yesung without Kangin.

Shuffling his feet along the sand, leaving a trench, Donghae sat mindlessly on the swing, staring at the uneven mounds of sand.

“Oppa? What are you doing here?”

Donghae looked behind his shoulder and saw Jessica, standing on the ledge of the swing area with her hand draped over the strap of her bag.

“Hey, what’s up?” Donghae cocked his head towards the empty swing next to him. Almost immediately, his mind sank back into the problem, his pupils diluting as he dazed off staring at the speckles of sand.

“I’m not going to bother about asking...” Her voice trailed off, quiet and reserved.

“What?” Donghae looked at her with wide eyes.

“It’s not that big of a problem, you know?” Jessica trailed back and swung her legs up, generating enough momentum to start swinging. “Just stop. It’s like, almost your second nature.”

“My what?”

“How you naturally just worry about everything.” Jessica flicked her head around to make eye contact, strands of her hair flowing freely in the wind. “And you always do the wrong things at the wrong time, and you confuse yourself all the time.”

“Umm...”

“And you don’t know when you need to stop talking, and you really don’t understand the concept of giving someone else space. And you really get too emotional and you never ever think things through.”

Jessica turned back around, stopping abruptly by digging the front of her shoes into the sand, dirtying the royal blue flats.

“But that’s also part of your charm...”

“Sica...”

“I should go, um, yeah.” She stood up, kicking and attempting to dust off her shoes.

“Do you want me to walk you home?”

“Still that caring, but stupidly oblivious boy, aren’t you?”

Donghae couldn’t help but chuckle, a mixture of relief and surprise at their friendship despite their breakup. They still poked fun and teased one another, but they both knew they had each other’s back no matter what. Jessica eyed him curiously before she, too, began laughing and threw a light punch at his arm.

“Just stop worrying, god. So who is it this time?”

“Go away.” Donghae pushed her playfully as the pair headed back to the dorms. Jessica shot him a final stare before they parted ways at the intersection.

“I’m not worrying, hah. I never worry, what is she talking about...” Donghae also had a habit of talking to himself.

“Hae, you always worry...”

“Hyung?”

“I’m going to assume that the she was Jessica.” The older boy pointed at the figure diminishing down the road.

“Hyung, how did you know, oh my god you’re amazing. It’s like you have psychic powers, and you can just like, read people’s minds.”

“You do talk too much, stop talking.”

“But Heechul-hyung, you don’t even know what’s going on. I’m so confused, and I don’t know what to do anymore...”

“Is it because Min and Hyukjae finally realized their feelings for one another, and you’re jealous, right?”

“HYUNG. NO. I am not jealous of them.”

“Yep. Totally not jealous, I understand you.”

“Hyung, I really am not jealous of them. I already told Hyukkie that I’m so happy for him and just because I haven’t talked with Sungmin doesn’t mean I’m not happy for him either. I just love Hyukkie as a friend a-”

“Stop talking.”

“Heechul-hyung, I’m just conf-“

“Donghae, stop talking. Just go talk to Kibum about these feelings you have.” Heechul drilled his pointer finger into his chest.

“Kibum, what about Bummie?”  Donghae cocked his head to the side, his tongue poking out cutely.

Heechul gave him a ‘are you being serious’ look followed by a ‘you make it so bloody obvious’. Donghae closed his eyes, trying desparately to find an excuse, anything, to refute that claim. All that was swimming inside his mind was Kibum, punching Sungmin in the face for being too cute, some ointment for Eunhyuk, and more Kibum.

“What? Hyung, really, it’s actually not Kibum.” Donghae opened his eyes, finding himself alone in the middle of the street. “Woah, no way, he just like, vanished.”

“Maybe I do like Kibum...” Donghae muttered on the elevator.

“You what?”

“Kyuhyun, how, what, where, how are, how did you get here?”

“Um, Donghae-ah, I was here the entire time. I kept waving at you but you ignored me.”

“No, but. What?”

“So you like Kibum?” Kyuhyun linked arms with Donghae. “Then pretend I’m Kibum, and tell me everything, I’ll try and help you, hyung.”

“Since when were you so nice.” Donghae eyed him cautiously.

“So when I’m arrogant and snarky, you guys say I don’t care about my hyungs, when I’m nice, you guys think I’m probably planning something.” Kyuhyun spat in frusturation. “So how am I suppose to act?”

“Kyu, no I didn’t mean it like that.”

“Shut up, all of you do that to me, how am I suppose to feel?” Kyuhyun started sobbing. “You know I have feelings too, right?”

“Oh god, Kyu please don’t cry.” Donghae started flailing his arms, circling the magnae as he tried to get him to stop crying. Donghae hated seeing people cry.

The elevator door opened, and Donghae chased after Kyuhyun who had bolted out immediately. The magnae had his keys in his hands, shaking and clinking awkwardly as he tried to stuff it into the keyhole.

“Kyu, please, just wait.” Donghae caught the tear-streaked magnae by the arm, pulling him to a halt. “Yeah, I do like Kibum.”

Out of nowhere, Ryeowook poked his head from behind the corner, one hand holding onto a pot while the other dried it with a cloth.

“Hyung, you like Kibummie?” Ryeowook widened his eyes in unaltered horror. Kyuhyun threw off Donghae’s hands and ran to his room, passing by a shocked Eunhyuk and Sungmin who were tangled with one another on the couch.

“Yeah, I do like Kibum, is there a problem?” Donghae looked at Ryeowook, then at the two Lee brothers, and back at Ryeowook.

“Of course not, hyung. It’s just that,” Ryeowook went back to the sink, picking up another pot as he began the process all over again. “Kyuhyun likes you, and you just broke his heart.”

“Kyuhyun what me?” Eunhyuk turned back to Sungmin, hands fumbling together and mouths reunited once more.  Donghae was incapable of thinking things through before he opened his mouth.

“Our magnae, Cho Kyuhyun, likes you, Lee Donghae.” Ryeowook turned around, stacking the pots before putting them into the oven for storage. “It’s not difficult to understand.”

“It’s Donghae, what did you expe-” Sungmin broke off a kiss momentarily before Eunhyuk grabbed his face again, lips connected once again.

Donghae stood there for minutes while the other three continued with their nightly activities. Sungmin and Eunhyuk eventually waltzed back into Eunhyuk’s room, limbs flailing around for balance as they crashed into the wall multiple times while making out.

“Yeah, well maybe you should talk to Kyuhyun about this. And don’t tell Kyuhyunnie I told you that he likes you, he’ll kill me.”

“Ryeowookie, don’t you do anything else besides cleaning?”

“People write that about me all the time, so I might as well keep doing it, right?” Ryeowook finished putting a stack of bowls back into a cupboard. “Say, do you want to join us for breakfast tomorrow morning?”

Donghae nodded, mouthing thanks for both the offer of food and advice. He’ll talk to Kyuhyun right now.

The door flung open and Kyuhyun walked out, the two of them nearly colliding into one another.

“Kyu, let’s talk.” Donghae pushed the magnae back into the room. “I know you like me, but I’m sorry. I like Kibum.”

“Wait.”

“I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have been so direct.”

“No wait. Say that again.”

“I shouldn’t have been so direct?” Donghae looked puzzled, a question mark forming in his eyes.

“No, you said, I like you? Who in the bloody hell told you that.” Kyuhyun sat on the bed.

“Ryeowookie.”

“That dumbass...”

“Oh right. I wasn’t suppose to tell you that he told me that you like me.” Donghae nodded sheepishly.

“No, I like him. I was just using you as an example...”

“So, you don’t like me?” Donghae perked up.

“No, who would like you. Ew.” Kyuhyun snapped his head to the side. “I need to talk to Ryeowook-ah.”

“And I need my Kibum...” Donghae somehow found himself pushed out of the room and Ryeowook was entering it. “Kibum-ah, I like you. Where are you hiding?”

Donghae sat on the couch, eventually toppling over as he fell into a deep sleep.

~

“Hyung. Donghae-hyung, wake up.” Donghae snapped his eyes open, squinting in disgust when the sun pierced his eyes. Kibum was on top of him, staring down with concerned eyes.

“Kibummie, why are you here?” Donghae sat up, stretching his arms before he rubbed his eye sleepily.

“I told you I was visiting,” Kibum looked disappointed for a second before he smiled brightly again, trying to cover it up. “you look really cute when you’re sleeping though.”

“Bummie-ah.” Donghae yanked on Kibum’s hand, pulling him onto the couch. “I like you.”

“I know already.” Kibum smiled, his hand ruffling through Donghae’s bed hair. “You said it so many times in your sleep.”

“I did?” Donghae felt himself blush as he sank into Kibum’s embrace. “Well, do you like me?”

“I like you more.” Kibum silenced him with a gentle kiss.
