Before note!!! sorry everybody! i cant put down page numbers because i have a different book than everybody, so my pages would be different from yours, but pretty much all of my material in this post comes from "How To Tell a True War Story." sorry for the inconvenience!
Ok when O'Brien defines a true war story he says that "its never moral." He also says that a true war story cannot be believed, and if you do believe it than be skeptical.
For some reason, I have no idea why, that chapter mad me terribly mad at O'Brien. Don't ask me why, but maybe its the fact that war stories have been told to us all our lives, and now he's telling us that all of them are lies.
But anyways! back to the topic! according to his definition it's quite obvious that his book isnt true because he also says that a war story is an allegiance to obscenity or evil. His stories really arent that evil. Take martha and jimmy for instance. thats not evil. But since this book isnt a true story anyways, he explains to all his readers every reason why they shouldn't believe that his story is real. A smart move if you think about it because nobody has ever really done that. But anyways that's just my own opinion! :-)
