she quit smoking. put her last pack into his hands and said, "keep these for me."
her voice heavy, husky even, you could tell it was painful for her to talk.
but she smiled as she coughed.
tugging her multi-colored scarf a little tighter around her neck, she hopped out of his car and said ,"good to see you! heart you!" she knew it would be a few days before she saw him again. it had been that way for a while now. had been that way with everyone she knew, actually. no one ever calls anymore. no one ever returns her calls.
it is as if they have all forgotten.
they all have become much too busy.
regardless, she had become used to going home alone, sleeping alone, waking up alone.
she walked through the windy parking lot, watching the skeleton branches on the trees scratch the sky, trying to push the stars out of their place. "if only," she thought.
there's a boy that she loves, who's never around
calls her every day just to hear the sound
of her voice.
but she worries, sometimes
that's it's just not enough
she's lonely and bored, and life is getting tough
and she just wants to talk.
and she wants hands to hold.
and she knows that he's there
but not really.
not how she needs him to be.
