IDM Week #4
www.kvm.com /
www.thebanmappingproject.com After two weeks of flash sites, we are back to regular old html. As usual overall I like the Theban Mapping Project (will Ethan ever choose a site that we would all hate?) (also, should www.kvm.com have been another site, that was replaced with thebanmappingproject.com?). Overall the site is good. The color scheme and layout remind one of not only the desert but also a kind of olden feeling indicative of the pyramids. The navigation is small and simple, and easy to use. One minor problem I have, and it is minor, and something that I am bothered with, is the way the information fits on the page. I know good web design means designing horizontally for 800 by 600 resolution, but most people don’t care about vertically. I can see everything fine on this page, but that is because I am at 1240 by 1024. Any other resolution, such as 1280 by 800, 1024 by 768 and 800 by 600 will have some text cut off on the bottom of the page. I don’t have a problem with that, but some sites will add spaces in that area as to create a single page that is completely encompassed by the main browser window, and any other text will be below the page. I feel this creates a cleaner look to the page, then having one or two lines of text and then the rest cut off on the bottom. But, I digress; as I said before, this is a very well designed site that is clean and easy to navigate around.
