But here you made me understood more about the PingBack service. It's such a double edged sword, isn't it? At one hand, I would want to know if anyone links my entry in their journal or sites; on the other hand, I agree to gave up part of my privacy too! \o/
I guess ignorance is a virtue here. *runs off to disable the pingback service*

I'm actually in Catch-22 hell with that banner, because I installed NoScript for Firefox after LJ decided to redirect some URLs through some sketchy third party, and the only way to close it is to temporarily enable scripting on LJ, which I don't want to do because LJ isn't trustworthy... lather, rinse, and repeat.
