THIS is why I do dance team

It's crazy to think at one point girls in my grade made up half of the dance team. Now there's as many seniors as there are juniors, but we're still beating the number of sophomores (3:2). The freshmen carry the most dance team members, with 4. So yeah, I definitely miss the fact that soo many of my friends have quit, but I'm really not sad about it anymore. It's just a change I've learned to accept. Like I've accepted that there is a 99.9999% chance they're not returning to dance team for our senior year. And that's cool. That's their choice.

But I will still do dance team because of how it makes me feel. Like today, for example. I love the feeling when you collapse at the end of a routine you've entirely put all your strength and energy into. And then being able to get up and do the exact same thing with another routine (pom then hip hop routine). It doesn't matter that it's the end of practice, or that you were tired after just doing fouettes (sp?) for 20 straight minutes. You take every bit of determination within you and somehow pull it out to have some critize you once you're breathless... and there's something so rewarding about being told "your jumps were on that time" or even "you need to be sharper during that transition."

I really really want to continue dancing in college... dance has truly changed my life. Since 6th grade, dance team has made me a more confident, self-assured, outgoing person. And happy. And healthy. And about a gazillion other great things. This may sound really lame, but it's seriously my dream to become a U of L Ladybird. Both the dance coaches I have ever had are ex-Ladybirds, and just knowing my home university has a nationally accredited dance team is so cool.

But being a Ladybird would help me upkeep all these positive virtues I've acquired through dance. I guess I really don't need dance to keep those attributes, but I mean, dance is my drug. Endorphins make people happy, right? And just things like dancing on the sidelines of a Ballard basketball or football game is a thrill... can you imagine doing that at a COLLEGE game, with thousands of restless fans? The mere thought is fantastic.

I guess what I'm getting at is... dance is a part of who I am.
