The other day we had a good little get together with some of the old work colleagues. I mentioned that I feared that someone would probably try and stab me or some other aggression and that shocked people a little bit. It happened though to someone in one of the other hostels, and this city seems to have just been getting more and more violent.
There was a story on the radio yesterday, which didn't do anything to help these perceptions about two female students from Indonesia. I think they were wearing a hijab, and some people started abusing them. They didn't say anything back, just kept walking and the person shouting abuse punched them in the face.
There have been a few things in and around the hostel with violent interactions, so I know I just need to keep a low profile and won't be going to start any problems, as I am not really after a glass to the head.
Do I have some better news? Well, yesterday was Valentine's Day. We actually had quite a nice day, and despite being married for many years, or maybe moreso, I still think the day is a complete load of shit. I'm not sure if that was branded into me in the years of being "forever alone, boo hoo", etc. Or, it is just a load of junk. Probably a bit of both.
I had an interesting comment on something my friend Todd said on Facebook. He was saying that despite being depressed etc, he's not sharing that news with the world. And I suggested that the audience is not there. In the younger years everyone says "oh my, are you alright" and are paying attention, but as the years go by, people aren't paying attention anymore and I think there's some link to the drop in usage of this very Livejournal platform.
Speaking on the topic, this is the new video from Totally Unicorn. Almost all their other videos are pisstakes of Parkway Drive videos, but this one is pretty full on, very good song too. Different style, I really like it.

Speaking of the Parkway Drive ripoffs, this one is the best one.

At a bit of lower tempo, some friends of ours were playing music at the Mandalay Bus yesterday. Latino romantic songs. We met these guys in Puerto Natales last visit to Chile. We had a little picnic there and played in the park, nice way to spend the afternoon. Then we've got one of those street libraries down the road, they had something called the "Blind Date With a Book" so I got one of them and gave that to Francisca. Then she went to bed and I watched the cricket.
Next week we've got some family coming out from Chile, that should be some fun travelling around with them. We will spend the second week mostly down the coast and I'm really looking forward to that. The following week I've got Jonathan's bucks weekend, and that will also be at the coast. Haven't been in the ocean so far this year, so that's something to rectify.
