I went and saw Parkway Drive tonight, it was at uni. Unfortunately there is no discount for students. I went with Ben, it was interesting to see what they played. I wasn't too much into the support bands. They played "Romance is Dead" and I noted to Ben that I got the album that song is off for my 21st birthday from Brooke, which was quite some time ago.
Considering I just turned 31 one month and one day ago, it puts it into perspective. I guess I've changed in some ways and plenty of ways not. Most of the bands I've seen this year, which haven't been too many, fit somewhere in a long term spectrum of the bands that have had some way of shaping mainly the music I've listened to over the years, but also plenty of the people I've met and friends made etc.
Last time I saw Parkway Drive was in Chile, I surfed on the crowd in an inflatable raft. I told one of my colleagues that and they seemed quite surprised I would do such a thing. "I couldn't imagine you doing something like that," I think is what they had to say.
Anyway, this was a lot more laidback, we were standing in the beer drinker area, though both of us drove. Where we stood was off to the side of the stage, but gave a good view.
I was just reading back through some old Parkway related entries. Apparently in 2005, 6 out my top 10 shows involved Parkway Drive. I didn't think I'd find this photo, but came across this one of me. I was just talking about this the other day, I once walked out from Byron Bay to get a photo in front of the Parkway Drive sign. It was a long way, but I had a lot of time to use up. I think I look pretty different in that photo. Most old photos I see of myself I think, hmm I look pretty much the same.
We had a couple of days in Merimbula during the week. Grandma and Grandpa were visiting, as well as my uncle and cousin. Mum and Dad booked a place right on the beach, but unfortunately there was no surf. I did a nice bike ride most of the way round the town. About 12km in the end.
Feels pretty good to have the concert over and done with and to get home by the time I'd normally be coming back from work. Was very happy to switch up my shift to a morning one today. Made a really big mistake at work today, but thankfully that got resolved.
Going to Melboune next week. Flying from Sydney, so going to go up there first. Francisca and Nicolas will stay in Sydney and I will have a few days on my own. Should be a fun trip. Competing in the Oceania Champs for freestyle football. Hope to catch up with quite a few friends while I'm down there. We will have to go down on a family trip another time.
