This contains MASSIVE spoilers for Gilmore Girls in general, and specifically the season finale. If you do not care to be spoiled, don't click the cut. You do, and you're at fault. Not me.
Dear Amy Sherman-Palladino,
You've turned into a two-faced whore like every other exec producer in history. Trust you? Yeah, like I'd even trust you to watch my drink while I went to the ladies', much less with these characters you should love even more than I do. You'd probably drug the drink and try to convince me something I didn't want was what I wanted.
However, I know what I want, and you cannot tell me otherwise. ALL I have wanted in regards to your show in the last five years is Lorelai as sparkling and vivacious as she's ever been, and Luke and Lorelai to end up together as they ought to be.
You have robbed me of these things.
The Lorelai who wasn't afraid of anyone or anything, who had a smart remark for everything, who was strong enough to leave home with a baby at the age of 16 and make her own way is gone. She has been replaced by a pouting, sighing, simpering spineless coward who makes me sad to look at her.
MY Lorelai would've told Luke to suck it up and introduce her to April. She would be having movie nights and corrupting the girl with junk food by now. That is who Lorelai is - a good woman, but a bad influence.
In fact, the problems with Lorelai and the totally oblivious nature of Luke is what is making their relationship disintegrate. The entire foundation of their previous relationship was Lorelai being a snarky pain in Luke's ass, and Luke knowing exactly what Lorelai was doing or thinking at all times.
That has been shot to hell. Thanks for that.
And now I read that Lorelai and Luke are going to break up, and the last shot of the season finale will be Lorelai and Christopher sleeping together.
I don't think so. I won't be there to witness it, because I can't. It's not what's supposed to happen. It's ludicrous, and absurd, and ridiculous, and every other word I can be redundant with in regards to this act of complete idiocy.
Tonight I realized what you're onto. By making Christopher "responsible" (which is an act, or temporary at best) and showing us, through Rory's eyes, no less, how awesome (and Lorelai of old, for Christ's sake) Anna is, you're going to put two "broken families" back together.
I don't know anything about your family, but maybe this is some childhood fantasy of yours. But I don't give a rat's ass, and I highly doubt anyone else does either. Let. It. Go.
Lorelai and Christopher do not belong together. Over the past five years alone it has been repeatedly proven. Over and over again. If they were supposed to be together, it would have happened 21 year ago, somehow. But Rory doesn't need her mommy and daddy happy together to be happy. Rory needs to grow a brain to be happy, but that's another discussion entirely.
Anna and Luke belong together even less, considering she had a child that she knew was his, and would never have bothered to confess it to him if said child hadn't wanted to do a science project to determine paternity.
If you want to drive away every viewer you have left, just go ahead. I guarantee it will work. I doubt anything above three people want to see Lorelai/Christopher ever again, but I hope you enjoy those three viewers. They won't sustain you, but at least they'll agree with you.
Not your ultimate plan? Still don't care. I can't stand by and watch a woman I once admired make this move. Once she sleeps with Christopher yet again, she's lost ALL of my trust and respect, and should lose all of Luke's.
This could have been beautiful, but now it's just a disaster of epic proportions. I trusted you to do the right thing when I trusted no one else in television, and you have betrayed that. You've betrayed your fans, and most of all you've betrayed your characters, which is an offense that can never be forgiven.
