On the good side, I got home from my trip ok. The Social Security office finally received the paperwork they need, I finally spoke face to face with my dad's oncologist and found out there's a program that may remove the hefty co-pay on his cancer treatments, so started the paperwork going on that. And traffic wasn't bad. All good things.
Now, the rest of it...well, not great. Dad's memory is much worse, to the point where I had to remind him how many kids I had and what their names were. There was a point he couldn't remember my brothers name either, but considering they haven't spoken in almost 10 years, that's not as surprising. Also, I found out he'd had a pretty serious fall, and had told the nurses not to tell me about it. I found this out when we went to talk to his doc about his unexplained sharp back pains, and then it came out that he'd been in for x-rays already, after his major (completely news to me) fall. It took physical effort not to look absolutely livid at that point. Then when we got back, there was an incident with another patient that resulted in a lot of screaming and the entire place smelling like feces, and I'm going to leave that description as is, because honestly even thinking about it makes me think I'm smelling it all over again. I stayed over to help the stressed out nurses trying to juggle multiple issues, and made sandwiches for dad and the other residents, in the other room. By the time I left yesterday, I was bone-tired and worn out. I ended up taking a brief nap halfway home, just to be able to drive safely the rest of the way. Today, my knees and back are hecked, but I'm still glad to be back into the normal routine of work and home life for the time being.
In order to try and boost my mood, I attempted to watch a couple of bad holiday movies (you know, the sappy holiday rom-com's that pop up a dozen at a time on all the streaming services this time of year). The first one was Hot Frosty, which as horrible as I expected it to be, was actually pretty entertaining. Dumb, but entertaining. Comedians like Craig Robinson and Joe Lo Truglio really helped make it worth a watch. The TRULY worst one though, was "Haul out the Holly". It was SO bad...like cult orientation bad. A reviewer on reddit compared the plot to the horror film Midsommar, and I gotta say, I agree. I turned it off 1/3 of the way in when I realized the insane HOA was supposed to be the GOOD guys in it, and then googled it just to see if it was really that bad, and yep, it was going to end just as badly as I thought. So nope. Not finishing that one. I guess they can't all be the good kind of "bad". Maybe I should just stick with Krampus for now.
Anyway, I'm off for the night. Wishing you all well!
