Another rare entry!
Changes are afoot! It's finally time to do something with my life, oh yeah!
Big announcement at work - they want to cut 400 jobs before next march. I have no idea if this will affect my department or not but I hope so, because they will first ask for volunteers for redundancy. If I could get it that would be almost a years salary as payout (and, I believe, tax free to boot!)
Pretty cool since I'm not planning to stay another year anyway :p
With that cash I'd pay my debts, wrap up a couple of certifications and maybe travel for a month. Then come back, probably to London and get a job on time to have a couple of grand left over in the bank. Masterly!
Problem is they won't even work out the areas of cuts until September, which probably means in our admin efficient (not) NHS I won't know if I can get this until xmas at the earliest. Not as soon as I'd like, especially since there's no guarantee they'll be knocking on our door but if I go looking for a job before that I'll be gutted if I miss a big payout.
On the other hand I've seen a job I am going to apply for: IT systems support on cruiseships! 6 month tours of duty (sounds military yes!) and 6 - 8 weeks off in between. No idea about salary but it may be tax free given how long i'd be out of the country for. Also the job has officer status, which is pretty cool!
Closing date end of august and I suspect a long vetting and interview process. If I'm really lucky It'l drag on long enough to get the job AND redundancy money. Although I'm probably living in a dreamworld there. Still, gotta aim big!
