How bad can a day get
Long time, lots happened...
Well I won't go into the last month too much (maybe later), I'm just gonna have a rant about today for now.
It was exam day for my Java stuff. Hardly managed any revision at all (why is it whenever anyone finds out you have time off suddenly they have these big emergency projects they need your help with? Take my advice - never tell anyone when your holidays are unless you're actually going away somewhere.)
Found out a few worrying things about the exam in the last few days. Firstly it was all on paper - not computers = no actual testing of programs = less chance of spotting and correcting mistakes.
Secondly we could only take the the copy of the reference book sent by the University and not a printout from the website in case we altered it in some way. Unfortunately the failed to mention this until last week while, like most of the other students, I've been cheerfully scribbling extra notes in to my copy for months now and therefore I couldn't take it in to the exam at all.
So I'm getting ready this morning and my Dad rings - my youngest uncle has been found dead in his flat this morning. No real details from the police other than he was lying on the shattered remains of a mirror and it doesn't look like theres been any forced entry to the flat or anything. Full details to be released after post-mortem examination. Very bizzare.
So after managing to get away from the family after lunch I hit the road for the 45 mile trip to the exam centre, not exactly feeling up for it.
Got there 10 minutes late and forgot to take ID so lost another 5 minutes filling out extra forms.
Pen ran out of ink half way through the paper and I had to get another one - which was a different colour so my answer paper changes from black to blue ink part way through!
Ran out of time on the last section while desperately trying to remember certain library class structures without my reference guide.
All in all it could have gone better. I was in line for a distinction based on my assignment marks but the exam counts for the lions share of the final grade so I reckon I'll be happy if I just get a basic pass now.
No wonder I've got myself some beer - tonight I need it!
