well, that's another friend left town. Gone down to London working for a media company as their network security officer.
I'm pleased for him because he's needed the move for a while. Debt's to pay and all that, plus his girlfriends down there.
Still, it means once again I've got one less friend up here now. On the other hand this guys a really close friend so i'll definateley not lose touch. Haven;t been to down to London for about 2 1/2 years now. It's about time I started getting out of town a bit more - now that I'm on top of the mortgage and other bills and crap.
Oh yeah, I got my salary made permanent last week, which is nice! 6 months ago I went for an equal pay claim since I was taken on in as a junior support engineer about 3 years ago, but ever since I've been taking on more until I was doing the same job as the senior engineers. Got given the rise I asked for temporarily for 3 months, even though I was expecting a halfway offer (we're talking almost a 6 grand difference here after all) but when review time came they palmed it off for another 3 months. I was expecting them to try it again because of this agenda for change thing.
Basically in the NHS theres a national program coming in to standardize salaries for the same job across the country, as right now every local trust sorts it out individually. But this doesn't come in until October which is a year after I put my claim in. And thats just the information gathering, it'l be at least another 6 months before anything is actioned after that.
So I decided I wasn't going to accept another temporary 'acting up' role as I've already gone 6 months not knowing if I can rely on my wage being the same ni 3 months time. It's been shit, because even though the money been pretty decent (for the area where I live anyway) you can't plan for anything or make any financial arrangements. Your whole life is effectively put on hold. So I got myself worked up ready to have a go at these git's who are making the decisions. I was getting negative vibes because the information director who decides it never shows his face in our section. So how can he review me after 3 months when he knows absolutley nothing about my job, and has done nothing to find out in the meantime?(The current info director is basically from an accounting background rather than something to do with the actual area he's supposedly directing - like most decision makers these days)
BUT, he just signed me onto permanent. No discussion, review or anything. I should be happy but now I'm pissed because I just think why didn't he just do this in the first place instead of messing me around for 6 months?
Well anyway, I can finally get some sort of life back so it's all good :)
