I had that happen read that story, but I only got to the part where the ring was broken. But the doctor evil wizard said something about using a drop of blood to fix it...I don't remember the rest.

Yes, blood is needed to fix the ring, so the story says. I can't recall the ending to the story either, though.

But if I try it again stumble upon that story again, I'll let you know the outcome.

There are many tales about magic rings but the make of the ring generally differs from story to story. Just out of curiosity, what did this particular ring look like?

In the illustration I saw, it had a silver band and a red jewel.

Only the jewel was broken. It was smashed against a hard surface, and it didn't seem to take much to do it.
