Silence was what drifted even from beyond the doors leading to the Sun room, a silence that may have been eerie to those who had the essence to be gripped by such a primal

"We need to-" 'help them' was the rest of that statement, but it was cut off when Landel kept going. Well, that was just uncanny and unnerving. It was like a line out of some kind of anti-Starfleet campaign. Those were easily ignored - she clearly always had complete faith that the Federation did right by whomever asked for their assistance (or didn't ask) - and she tried to think that this rant of bitter disapproval was no different. Uhura shook her head when Kirk looked at her, maybe a little for herself as well as him. They would be fine.
The burst of light took her by surprise, and she ducked her head instead of shielding her eyes. If the flashes were meant to distract them from something, she didn't want to miss it. Although that noise was ringing straight through her head, and she couldn't stop the uncomfortable groan she made before she managed to cover her ears with her hands. If there was one type of situation when she absolutely loathed having a strong aural sensitivity, it was right now, and any other time loud, dissonant tones felt like blaring when she least expected it.
Once it all stopped, Uhura rubbed at her eyes, then looked around as they started to readjust to the new lighting. "Did I miss something?" Her tone had a little bit of sarcasm to it, but mostly just confusion. That seemed like a lot of build up to a simple change in ambiance.

No doubt something had once again changed in the hospital, but there was no telling what unless they kept moving. Always, their one option in any situation: keep moving. Kirk turned back to Uhura.
"I don't know... He's done something to change the building." Kirk was reminded of the theory they'd very briefly discussed once, at the beginning of all this: the possibility that the space they inhabited now was some kind of simulation, with parameters that could be as easily tweaked as a computer program's. What switch had Landel flipped now?
He turned off his flashlight and shoved it into the waistband of his pants, but told Uhura: "Keep yours on." The reilluminated lights were only half as bright as during the day, but plenty enough to allow them to go without flashlights. Still, he didn't trust the hospital's lights to stay on all night. Kirk readjusted his grip on the baseball bat, and indicated that they should continue on ahead. "And keep an eye out."
