here]"Ah...!" This wasn't the right hallway yet, but he could tell it was close from the fresh smell of patients off in the distance. He continued to jog briskly down the hallway, making sure to control his breathing so he didn't get winded so easily. There would be a lot of running (he hoped, at least) this night and it would be good for him

Little changed from night to night, but Zevran didn't want to become accustomed. This place should never give him comfort, even if it was only born out of familiarity. The woods did not become more forgiving simply because you walked through them every day.
It wasn't so odd to have the coiling corridors feel as threatening as the wilds, considering the ruins and towers he had become acquainted with, but he would have preferred a nice bustling street to all of this. There, the worst monsters usually dressed in fine silks. But he supposed that everyone had their own things that gave them the illusion of comfort. There were some practical knowledge sets that helped, of course, but in the end it was mostly about aesthetics.

So far, so good, and that was a cliche if he'd ever heard one, McCoy thought dryly. Next, he'd have another statue breathing down his neck. He'd never seen anything like it before, and with any luck, he wouldn't again.
Instinctively the doctor looked behind anyway. No angel coming up on him, nothing just suddenly appearing there. He turned back to face the way he was going. No angel either, and he'd start jumping at his own shadow if he didn't clamp down on that overactive imagination.

Unfortunately, it didn't look like he'd been fast enough to be the first patient who was out and about, as Zack spotted a few others as he moved further down the hall. First was a little kid, and the soldier had to pause and wonder if maybe he should ask him if he was lost or something. But the last time he'd tried to help out a kid, he'd paid for it; said kid was now adult age and still pretty obnoxious when she wanted to be, so he was going to have to cut his losses there.
The other patient was an older man who looked like he knew what he was doing, and so Zack felt comfortable with moving on guilt-free. Besides, he was getting so close to the meeting spot that he really didn't want to let himself get distracted by anything.
So, tightening his grip on both his pry bar and flashlight, Zack continued on.

Just as Peter had figured, this hallway was pretty much deserted. Everyone else gathered a little further down, just because it was the easiest place to describe in vague bulletin messages. Not to mention it was a good meeting point between the male and female blocks, and near the stairs. There were a lot of reasons why it was the best place, and why everywhere else was just an area to pass through as quickly as possible.
Which was what he did. Flashlight pointed forward, Peter turned to the right and headed toward the stairs. He wouldn't be going up them (yet), but it was something to aim for.
