Day 51: Intercom, Evening

Aug 23, 2010 03:54

"Well, that's it for today's activities and hygiene!" The Head Doctor said with a jovial tone just after the sound system's jingle. He seemed excited and maybe even giddy. "Our nurses will now be escorting everyone back to their rooms, and some of you might find that you have brand new roommates to share your dinner with! That's right: we've gotten ( Read more... )

He'd taken note of those who had responded to his post and those who had not. He had no idea how many of those who had merely missed the message were still around and he was almost afraid to ask the nurses as the final shift came to an end. But as a captain he knew well his responsibilities to a team and he also knew the risk of not asking after his men. As he finished taking his notes for the day, his nurse came to get him and he finally worked up the courage to ask.

The answer was as he expected, but it didn't lessen the blow any.

As he started the walk back to his room, he felt like the floor had dropped out beneath him. He barely remembered the walk, but when his consciousness registered the change of place - his room - he knew he had moved. How could it be that in one night, one day the History Club had lost almost all of its leadership? Not only that, but Okita had lost so many of his friends in a span of two or three days. Ayumu first and now Kenren, Nataku and, of all people, Homura ( ... )

It always seemed like Luke was the hardest to find when Guy needed to talk to him the most. Guy knew that wasn't his friend's fault, though; this place just made it hard to meet up at times. But since he hadn't heard from Luke for certain before making it back to dinner, it looked like he was going to end up swinging by Claude's room after all. He felt bad for constantly sticking with Claude instead of being of proper help to Luke, but he couldn't do much if he wasn't hearing back from him ( ... )

The door opened and Okita tried to break himself of his reverie. He wasn't hungry but he supposed he'd need to make a show of eating. If he worried Guy too much that would be unacceptable. So when his roommate entered the room and gave him their usual greeting, Okita turned and smiled at him, nodding his head slightly. "Good evening, Guy-san."

The greeting was automatic and it helped reel him back to reality. It helped ground him in the fact that Guy was still here, that some of his friends were still here. That thought helped, more than he thought it would.

"How are you today?" he asked, looking away to concentrate on his food. Chicken - something they ate often at the Shinsengumi headquarters. Hijikata had insisted upon his men eating meat to bolster their energy. Okita didn't move to pick up his fork right away. Instead, he pushed away from the desk and stood, moving toward his bed. "I have something for you. Would you like it now or later?"

i will never forgive you. (nottalking) razing_phoenix August 29 2010, 04:28:11 UTC
It was the same greeting as always, and Guy only nodded in response. Now didn't seem to be the time to talk about what might be bothering his roommate, but would there ever be a time? Or were there others that Okita had already set aside to talk to? People he could trust, or something along those lines. Guy could understand not wanting to open up too much around someone you shared your living space with, though. Part of him had always wanted to look over his shoulder, back at the Fabre manor ( ... )

finally got my answer! notachick September 5 2010, 07:48:48 UTC
As he'd guessed, Guy wanted his present now. He'd been waiting long enough for it after all. However, this was the last thing he'd ever be able to promise the man. After this, just figuring out how to run the club was going to be hard enough. Gaining him favors from anyone would be...difficult. Okita didn't have the connections Homura had, nor was he willing to push as the demi-god did to forge ties, however strained ( ... )

The moment that Okita pulled the blade out, Guy found his eyes widening and his feet taking him one, two, three steps closer without asking for his permission. The sword looked surprising well-crafted for having been made in this place, and more than that, it was the right size. It was exactly what he needed after relying on a short sword for so long, and he had to fight not to just walk over and grab it right away so he could get an idea of the weight and the feel of it ( ... )

Guy's excitement at finally getting his hands on a sword was almost palpable and Okita's smile widened faintly at the thought that he was able to do that for him. When he'd promised Guy a sword, he'd initially thought it would be easy and thus hadn't thought much of it. Then, after everything, when he'd been able to get the sword made and was promised it after all, it had become quite the ordeal to pry it from the group's hands. Now that it was tied to its new owner, he felt a sense of accomplishment he hadn't felt in a long time ( ... )

As much as Okita seemed to mean what he was saying about the sword now being his, Guy couldn't completely kick the feeling that he had stolen it from someone else. It was irrational, especially since there was a large chance that its original owner wouldn't be coming back, and yet he couldn't just brush it off. Granted, he would never know if the person returned unless Okita told him, and his roommate probably wouldn't at this point ( ... )

It was fun, seeing Guy glance from his food to the sword back and forth like that. His anticipation of holding it in his hands proper was clear as day and Okita couldn't remember a time when he'd seen someone so happy at receiving a weapon before. He supposed it was natural since Guy was a swordsman who had been without his sword for so long, but it was still cute. Without realizing it, he laughed a little, shaking his head when Guy insisted upon finding something for him ( ... )

Good, Okita had finally given in. Not that he had much of a choice, as it wasn't like he could stop Guy from getting him something. He was going to have to think of something on his own, since he doubted that Okita was going to be willing to give him any ideas. He'd just have to pay attention to his roommate and see if he was struck with a stroke of genius. Or he'd just try and gather some sweets for him, but that was almost too easy.

It was a shame that Okita hadn't gotten a chance to try out the origami stuff, though. Guy had been a bit too distracted by Luke to give it a try, which he regretted now. Sometimes he was just a little too fixated, and then he looked back and sighed at himself. But he'd just gotten so used to keeping an eye out for the redhead, and they had something important that they still had to discuss ( ... )
