Night 48: F31-F40 Hallway

Mar 23, 2010 21:40

No assignment tonight. That was strange, Meche thought--but then, only a few people had replied to Hitsugaya's roll call, so maybe there just weren't enough of them who were in good enough shape to take on a new job. It made sense for them to take a little time off after what had happened last night.

There was that report--neatly handwritten ( Read more... )

She should have known he was going to be difficult, but for some reason she didn't. When Bella felt his hands on her hips, she blinked in surprise, spinning around to face him as he slowly moved her towards the wall. Stumbling over her feet at first, her hands moved to grasp tightly onto his shirt so she wouldn't fall.

The wall behind her took her by surprise as well, and she hit it with a soft thump. Looking up at him in surprise, Bella frowned, knowing Edward was right. "Well, that's what a flashlight is for," she grumbled, turning her gaze away from him for a moment before looking back at him once she felt him grasp onto her hand.

Needless to say, her surprise only continued once the feel of his skin touched her own. Still chilled to the touch, Bella was taken aback by the feel of a scar. "Already?" She blanched, her fingertips gently dancing over the smooth skin before she pressed her warm palm against it, pleasantly surprised ... but she didn't show it. "But ... but last night it was bleeding and ..."

Why was she arguing? Looking up at him once Edward spoke once more, she felt her heart speed up at the sight of his crooked smile, and her free hand moved to press against his bare stomach, wishing for nothing more than being able to take his shirt off completely so she could take off her own -

"Oh," she said lamely, instantly changing her tone. Looking up at him through her lashes, she tried her hardest to attempt to dazzle him instead of him dazzling her. "That's good. Because I ... miss you."

"I used to be able to reattach my limbs at will, and this surprises you?" Ignoring the fact that, yes, he was surprised himself, this thought amused him greatly. It was strange how Landel had changed him. He wasn't human... but he was. He was still cold, still dead, but slow and clumsy and someone who needed light to see. Goodbye, night vision. But he was weak. Oh, he was weak - in many ways. For a male who was fond of wrestling matches with his brothers and saw some semblance of joy in facing a vampire army (or at least the idea of it, since he'd sat out with some... coercion), being as weak as a human was uplifting. Because he could squish his fiancée against a wall and trail his hands along the soft curves of her bones and not be afraid they would snap like a bird's bones would.

So he could be stabbed. You win some, you lose some. This - this - was worth that.

He answered her confession with his own: "I love you." His next kiss showed her exactly how much he had missed her without using words.

"Well, I never saw that happen," she told him with a frown, albeit she was relieved. "And if I saw such a thing happen chances are I would have freaked out just as much as I am now. Maybe even more." Honestly, how could she not be surprised at such a thing as reattaching limbs? It terrified her. But, then again, anything that had to do with Edward being in pain terrified her. Even when he wasn't injured she was terrified of the possibility of him hurting.

Bella's unpleasant emotions instantly vanished at his words, and her frown quickly curled up and into a smile. Before she could respond, his lips were pressed against her own at a pressure that made her shudder from her head to her toes, and instantly her hands once again locked around his neck and into his hair.

Despite Landel's taking them from their homes and getting them almost killed every night, there was one good thing about being there. Edward, who always felt the need to hold back, could now touch her and hold her and kiss her without any reservations.

... Though, even if he could do such a thing, Bella couldn't help but wonder if he would actually sake the chance. Just because it was there didn't mean he would automatically let go of any fears he had, though. ... And that, she hated to admit, made her somewhat annoyed.

No matter. If he couldn't make the decision on his own then she would help him.

At the thought, Bella couldn't help but smile against Edward's lips, excited for the opportunity.

Voicing his pleasure with an audible, "Mmmm," he pulled back before the sound became a little too vocal - and before his mouth became a little too wet. His venom was still a danger, whether or not people seemed to... not be harmed by it. Actually, he didn't have proof one way or another; the only thing clear was that it had lost the potential to turn humans to his kind. Venom had been an accident: he'd died immediately after. But the boy from last night had seemed fine... though, of course, Edward's glance at him had been cursory at best. He'd need to seek him out since he knew the boy was still alive.

"You taste as good as ever," he complimented, pressing his forehead softly against hers. The warmth was quite soothing; it seemed to reach tiny fingers into his own skin, warming his head. He rather thought his early-day metaphors of her being like alcohol were ringing true: she was easy to get drunk off of. "I have a proposition for you. Would you like to come with me outside?" He still hadn't the chance to see if there was any wildlife outside. In case Venom's plan failed - for whatever reason, though the vampire was sincerely hoping it did not - he needed a plan B. If there weren't animals, he would starve. He couldn't risk the fountain alone because if anyone were in the chapel, they would be more promising food sources than a standing pool of cold blood was. Secondly: he missed outdoors. Edward might have detested some aspects of Forks, but its wilderness was not one of them. He craved the fragrances of grasses, trees, flora, fauna. It was just... in his blood, so to speak.

"We could see the stars," he added, wondering if it might be added incentive. Perhaps he could use them to divine what day it was. There was no telling how many hours he had spent unconscious before his awakening, if any.

Edward's words caused her cheeks to flush, and Bella bit her lip to stop herself from making a stupid comment. However, at his "proposition," she stopped biting her lip and responded. "Hm, why not? It's not like there's anything else to do."

Minus continuing to kiss and whatnot, but that was beside the point.

Untangling herself from Edward's reaching hands, Bella took a few steps away and reached into her pocket, grabbing her flashlight. She couldn't even remember when she placed it there - it must have been at his first kiss. Surely that was it.

"The stars, hm? Mr. Cullen, I do believe you're trying to get romantic with me," a smile, and the teenager moved towards the door, throwing it open before turning to look at him with that same happy smile. "Let's go."
