No assignment tonight. That was strange, Meche thought--but then, only a few people had replied to Hitsugaya's roll call, so maybe there just weren't enough of them who were in good enough shape to take on a new job. It made sense for them to take a little time off after what had happened last night.
There was that report--neatly handwritten during dinner--to deliver, though, so if he was still in his room when she got there Meche guessed she could ask. She began to collect the things she needed to bring with her (folded report, flashlight), but her spear wasn't under the edge of the mattress where she'd left it, and when she opened the closet to look--
The sword, Manny's sword, was propped up against one wall, half-hidden behind her dress. "But..." Meche started out loud, then trailed off. He must have left it for her after she'd gone out last night. She'd left pretty quickly, so it made sense that they would have missed each other. But if he'd dropped off the sword, why--
She grabbed her spear and shut the door firmly behind her, putting her back against it for a moment as if she could keep the questions this raised inside that way. Well, there was no time to worry about anything now. Hitsugaya might be waiting on that report; she needed to get going.
