Day 44: Arts and Crafts Room, Second Shift

Sep 24, 2009 16:08

Astor hadn't talked much after introducing himself, which hadn't bothered Terry. With all the crap their little hospital of horrors piled on the patients, he couldn't blame a guy for not wanting to open up to some stranger. Plus, not talking meant he could get a decent meal in, and then check out the bulletin for the latest in Landel's news and ( Read more... )

[for a nurse and, afterward, Kaworu]

"WHERE THE HELL IS SHE?!" Kanji yelled as soon as he barrelled in. He'd practically come running from the bulletin board and toward the gaggle of nurses playing supervisor in the Art Room. He'd barely reached them before he started yelling in outrage.

Actually, he was scared; terrified. Naoto was gone. They'd taken her! Or they were doing something to her, even this very moment! Either way, they dared to lay a freaking finger on her!! He had no idea what was happening or if she was okay or even... alive. Anything could have happened. That idea had Kanji scared shitless. No way was he going to sit around and act like everything was fine when Naoto wasn't where she was supposed to be!

He'd been told the nurses and doctors thought they were all nuts, but they had to know what the bastards did with her! They couldn't be that freaking dumb! He was looking back and forth, unsure which nurse to focus his rage on most. "Don't give me any fucking bullshit!! Naoto! Where is she?! Where'd they take her?! ( ... )

[Jen]

The nurse was on her feet and motioning for orderlies to follow her as quickly as possible. "Mark? Calm down. Your friend is just fine. She was released early this morning. Her parents came to pick her up, and they're on their way home by now. So there's no need to worry, and she's not hurt."

She was ready with a syringe and the orderlies, but hoped that would be enough to calm him down first.

Kanji turned his full attention on the nurse that'd come up and the big gorilla lackies she'd brought along. Like he was freaking scared of any of them. Like he was in any condition to be scared of anyone.

It was very obvious nothing she'd said had made him any calmer. In fact, he looked even more pissed off. That was such a bullshit answer!! No one in her family came here to 'pick her up,' and if anyone did, it would have been her grandfather. Even he knew that much. They were right out lying to him!! If she hadn't been a woman, he would have grabbed her by the collar, shoved her against the wall, and yelled in her face until she coughed it up. And damn it all if he wasn't tempted to anyway.

Since he couldn't hit her, he bashed the wall with the side of his fist loud enough to send a loud bang through through the room, glare never straying from her face even while doing so. "Bullshit!! DON'T YOU GIMME THAT!! I know you know what they did with her! You better tell me where she is 'fore I beat the shit outta all of you ( ... )

The nurse couldn't help but dodge - it was pure instinct. Despite that, she winced when the boy's hand hit the wall. That had been a hard hit, and the way it had been done, with that much force might have even been enough to break it. She couldn't get a good look at it now, though, not with him like this.

The orderlies rushed forward without needing to be signaled, grabbing the boy by both arms and holding him still. "Mark. We told you. She's with her parents now. She's at home. She wants you to get better and come home, too," she said, hoping her words would be enough to distract him while she readied the syringe and injected him with the sedatives. "But you can't if you're going to keep acting out like that. Now, let me take a look at that hand, all right?"

As soon as the two punks jumped forward and grabbed a hold of him, Kanji went absolutely ballistic. He was rarely, if ever, one to throw a first punch, but once someone actually started a fight, Kanji was sure to finish it. It didn't help that he was already at the end of his patience. Comparatively, the boy's sudden explosion made his previous behavior seem almost docile.

Kanji yelled loudly, some enraged almost animalistic type of noise. He thrashed almost instantly, using both arm strength and his full body weight in an attempt to throw the two pricks off him. "I'M GONNA SHOW EVERYONE MY HAND YOU DON'T GET OFFA ME!!"

That...hadn't worked? The nurse clucked her tongue. "Mark. Calm down.." The two orderlies tried getting a tighter grip on the boy, but one of them wound up slipping, holding one hand to his nose. "You're going to hurt yourself more than you already have if you don't. Besides that, you're hurting other people. So," she said, stepping forward with a second syringe in hand, "Calm down." She injected him that second time, hoping that would be enough.

He was still fuming in absolute rage. He was not going to put up with this!! This stupid place and it's stupid nurses with their stupid freaking needles!! If they thought that was going to stop Kanji Tatsumi, they were dead wrong ( ... )

Kaworu's art project had been ignored ever since the yelling began, despite a nearby nurse's best attempts to distract him with construction paper and markers. It was the boy he had met on the bus, and he had mentioned Naoto. Naoto who was supposedly gone, who had helped protect Kaworu, and who Kaworu would likely never see again. The transience of their meeting was surreal ( ... )

Kanji jerked suddenly as soon as he felt a touch on his shoulder; more a reflex than anything. He was so out out of it, he hadn't even noticed the other kid had approached until he'd touched him. Had he been at 100%, he likely would have shoved the hand off, but at the moment he only had the vague desire to do so.

There was a slight frown as he blinked at the boy sitting next to him, trying to keep his focus and figure out who he was and why he was talking to him. Hadn't he had this same reaction a few times already? With this kid, even? Yeah, it was... that guy on the bus. The one who stared him down and kept asking weird questions. It looked like he hadn't gotten over that habit, cause he was doing it all over again.

"...Whadda you care?" he grumbled with a slur, still frowning just a little. "You... dun even know 'er. ...Not like it matters. They took 'er. And that's... all that," matters should have been the end of that sentence, but he muttered off into silence ( ... )

The body language was enough, and Kaworu was not so oblivious that he couldn't tell when his touch wasn't welcome. He withdraw his hand, and for a moment didn't know what to do with it. Most had appreciated, or at least tolerated, his touch. It wasn't very hard to tell the difference. Kaworu appreciated the physical connection, because often it said more than he could express in words, though he knew many Lilim felt it was too bold. But it was clear that this time, Kanji was not scared or embarrassed. He simply didn't want it ( ... )

Naoto protected him? Tch. That sounded like something she would do. She was no pushover, and if there was anything she could do for anyone, she would be plenty willing to stick her neck out there for them and give whoever was on the receiving end hell. Though it sounded like when this guy had met her, Yousuke-senpai had been with her, watching her back. Like Kanji probably should have been doing more. And now she wasn't there any more. Maybe if he hadn't been such a lazyass, he could have ben there for her when she needed help. Then she might still be around. He was such a goddamn idiot.

"So you met 'em both?" He repeated dumbly, trying to think about what that might have meant. So far he was coming up blank. "Tch. Yeah. Sounds like 'er alright... Like both of 'em, actually. Pretty good at that, too." So he did kind of know her. He'd at least met her and knew who Kanji was talking about. That was better than nothing. ...Not that he was much of a talker anyway, but it made things a little better ( ... )

Kaworu himself was surprised, caught off guard by the sudden and intense reaction. He hadn't meant anything when he had used the word love, but he knew now that it was romantic love that Kanji was thinking about. He listened to the Lilim's struggle to get out the words and deny the accusations Kaworu hadn't intended to make. He had obviously embarrassed the other boy by talking about how he felt for Naoto ( ... )

Strangely enough, that worked pretty well and Kanji visibly relaxed a bit, though he looked no less embarrassed. At least it wasn't true that Yousuke was going around saying shit about him behind his back, or else Kanji really would have been mad.

"I don't care." That was the only response he would give to any apology offered to him. To him, it was the same as saying it was fine, but some people didn't really get that. "...I guess... I guess she was. I dunno. I mean, she was important to a lotta people, y'know?"

Suddenly, he stopped. Because he realized two very big things wrong with this scenario. One was he was letting himself start to get all choked up about this, and that was the last thing Kanji wanted. He didn't want to get sad or upset. He wanted to be pissed so he could kick the bastard responsible's ass that much harder. Though it seemed like getting worked up was just going to make him dizzy. And two ( ... )

Kaworu's posture lightened, and Kanji's words seemed to wake him up. Naoto, someone who had selflessly helped him, was stolen away. Wherever she was, Shinji might be with her ( ... )
