Despite the room being empty, there was always the sense of something being nearby in here. Whether that was true or not-Sam remembered seeing signs of some kind of attack the last time, but sweeping his flashlight over the area now, there wasn't any hint of it left. No rusty bloodstain or anything.
The computer was still sitting there, though. He wanted to try again; given enough time, he was sure he'd be able to get somewhere with it, but time wasn't really in abundance. If it was locked down that tight, it had to mean something. There was no reason for the security system to be set that expertly otherwise. But whether it had anything to do with Dean, that was another question altogether. Sam had no idea how much of this was tied up with Dean. The deal was separate, that was obvious, and it was pretty clear this was all bigger than just him and his brother, but it made it hard to know whether he needed to get out first to break the deal or if he could just forget about breaking out and worry about Dean's soul. Because truth be told, he didn't give a damn about being trapped here if it meant he could still save Dean. It would hardly be a victory if he escaped just to lose his brother all over again.
And it bothered him, not being able to figure out what he was supposed to focus on first. Made everything feel too chaotic, like he couldn't get a handle on it.
Sam glanced back at the open door. He could hear Dean shuffling about in the other room, no sound of anything going wrong, so he went for the door locking the storage room they'd headed into before. It was weird; the lock had been broken a couple of nights ago, but the one on the door now? It wasn't exactly new. It didn't look recently replaced. More as if it'd just never been broken in the first place.
Evidence of an illusion were building up fast, but Sam still didn't want to go there. Once he let himself question the reality of one thing, it was just gonna go downhill from there and he already had enough trouble sometimes believing he had Dean back again.
