The king couldn't help but wonder; even if they did locate a storage room holding the best equipment for warding off these walking corpses (which he seriously doubted), von Karma didn't honestly expect Scar to fight these things, now did he? And truthfully, he didn't expect the human to last all that long against them either, considering how climbing the stairs had cost him so much energy that he had needed to rest. If they'd be cornered, they'd have a major problem. And considering they were on the second floor, there were little directions they could run into and would somehow result in something better.
Regardless, the former lion didn't remain standing above the stairs to wait for those monsters to finish their climb and catch up to him. He followed von Karma down the hall, trying not to panic as he wrecked his brain for a way to shift the situation in something he had any hopes of surviving. Using von Karma as a distraction would merely be a short-term solution to the problem, so there was no sense in trying that even though it was tempting enough. The monsters suffering from digestion problems thanks to eating that human was probably too much to hope for.
He wanted the night to end as soon as possible. They needed a way to prevent those things from following them. Or a miracle.
