Night 41: Women's Bathrooms (F1-F40)

A quick scan showed no meatbags within view, although contrary to what many humans stupidly believed, infrared radiation could not be detected through opaque objects. Obviously. But really, HK was far too focused on the most immediately obvious pipes in the wall under the sinks. An experimental tug at the fixture showed that the pipes ( Read more... )

Leaning back against the wall by the door, Beatrix watched HK-47 beat at the pipes with an amused look sparking in her cold eyes. If the droid's reactions weren't so precious, she might have warned him about the swamp water in the pipes.

"Haven't you ever killed someone in a sewer system before?"

"Affirmative: Yes, but at the time I was able to shut off my olfactory sensors," HK somehow managed to say in a fairly even tone while still attacking the pipe with dogged tenacity. A few more hits, and the thing finally cracked away from both wall and sink, leaving HK to scramble for the thing before it touched the pool of nearly malevolent water. "Query: How many pipes are needed?" He hoped it was just one. Or maybe two, because he only had two feet, and one of them was rather painful now.

"You'll get used to the smell soon enough," Beatrix replied, her eyes flickering toward the stalls on alert for any suddenly appearing creatures.

"For your type of blade, a minimum of three pipes. I suggest taking four to leave some metal for the Norn's personal use," she added on.

Damn. At least he could potentially try to convince the pain receptors in his feet to quiet down over the whole 'Stop slamming me into objects much more structurally sound than me!' problem. With a slight sigh, he started working on the next pipe. This time, he was expecting the almost-water, but he wasn't quite expecting having to leap out of the way to avoid a sudden spray of the stuff. This thing was trying to fight back! HK immediately began kicking harder.

Junpei pushed the door to the bathroom open, bat at the ready, when he saw what his nose had confirmed.

"This blows. Someone already raided this place." Sighing, he stepped side, trying to avoid the worst of the water on the floor, so Chidori could see.

Chidori sort of dreaded finding out what Junpei's "awesome idea" was, but this was not exactly the way she would have chosen to delay that particular revelation. They'd been too slow, after all. Sighing, Chidori kicked at the wall a little, regretting it instantly--she didn't have her heavy platform boots here, after all. "We try another bathroom, then, I guess."

"True." Junpei then brightened up. "Hey, let's go get the metal from the showers. Then we can take care of that and my totally awesome idea."

"The showers?" Chidori had hurried in and out of there as quickly as she could, during the day, so she didn't clearly remember the setup. But weren't shower heads usually made of plastic or really light metals that weren't much use for weapon-making? "That seems like it might not work..."

And she was more concerned than ever about that 'totally awesome idea', if it for some reason involved the showers.

The smell and sound of dripping dirty water made Taura wrinkle her nose, but she didn't voice a complaint. She shone her flashlight in a slow sweep, highlighting each sink and each missing pipe in turn.

"It looks like they did a thorough job," she rumbled, torn between irritation and respect for a quick and competent job. There was one thing that still didn't make sense, though. "If all the pipes are gone, what will we do for facilities in the morning?"

"That's a good question," Kaoru echoed, holding a hand to her nose in an effort to filter the smell. "I think maybe we can try another room...? How are we going to carry it all, when we do?" She made a little noise of disgust - sweat and men in a dojo were one thing - they could bathe - this was something entirely different and completely unpleasant.

Oh, EW.

Yuffie echoed the sentiment outloud, nose wrinkling as she pushed the door open to peer inside. There was nobody in there; it was too dark for her to pick out the details, good night vision or no. Water was dripping slowly, foul smelling and probably gross-looking to boot. She kicked the door open the rest of the way for Yukari and her flashlight.

Well, if that statement wasn't foreboding, she didn't know what was.

Yukari followed closely behind, and it wasn't long before the nauseating smell attacked her senses; grimacing, she reluctantly stepped in, shining her flashlight across the bathroom. Eurgh, what was that on the floor? Water, probably, but it ... didn't look sanitary in the least.

"Oh lord," Yukari groaned under her breath, glancing over longingly towards the exit. "If I didn't know any better, I'd say something kicked it in here and the janitor somehow missed it."

The stench really was sickening. Yuffie grimaced as well, but kept a reign over her disgust. "Now we know where Landel shoves all the decomposing monster bits," she agreed, eventually taking a step back. "Grossness." She was almost glad that they wouldn't have to stick around in that particular bathroom, but there wasn't going to be any way to avoid the gunk when they finally found someplace that hadn't been raided. The murky water was splattered everywhere; given the state of decay, she wouldn't have expected the pressure in the pipes to be so high. Now she knew.

"Let's get goin' before the smell decides to grow legs and follows us."
