Nightshift 35: Main Hallway, 1-East

[coming in from here]Wally jogged along the hallway, his flashlight's beam dancing along the walls and floor until it briefly illuminated something which caught his attention. He slowed to a stop, laughing a little at the sensation of running, even if it was nowhere near the type of running he normally did. The hallway he was in seemed to almost ( Read more... )

Tony snorted in wry humor as Wally jogged ahead, raising an eyebrow at the younger man's apparent restlessness. Not that he wasn't restless himself, but pelting along in the pitch dark through a mental hospital from hell wasn't his idea of a good time. He quickened his pace, gaze and flashlight beam both tracking in the indicated direction. "It doesn't have teeth, does it?" he asked as he caught up, voice unconsciously lowered in response to the quiet vacancy of that particular stretch of hallway.

Wally shook his head. "Not unless stairs are known for their ability to bite people." He paused, contemplating that idea. "Though in this place, that really wouldn't surprise me." He shone the flashlight in the direction he thought he'd seen the stairwell, and smiled hugely when both his and Tony's lights found their target. "Going up?" he asked, raising an eyebrow and smirking.

"I can see the headlines now: Unidentified male victims eaten alive by stairs. Police seek elevator for questioning." Tony glanced quickly around them, brow knitting in a slight frown. "There isn't one. Huh." He shrugged off the apparent absence without another thought, and started for the stairwell. "Going up."

Ah hah... it seemed like he'd left all of the other patients behind. Not that he minded too much; for the first time in a long time, Adelheid was as he usually had been in his own world, alone and ready to face whatever stood between him and his destiny.

No, wait. His footsteps faltered as he remembered all over again the thing that he missed so sincerely and dearly, none other than his sister. It had been only a month, and yet it had felt like an eternity since he'd heard her voice, felt her touch, been reinforced by her unquestioning faith in him and his abilities. He'd give anything, anything at all, just to be with her one more time.

His breath came out in a shuddering sigh as he forced those thoughts away. The only way to see Rose- his Rose, the one and only sister he had- was through Martin Landel. For that, he had to remain strong and make full use of his resources. Fulfilling his promises was one thing, but perhaps if he could make use of the other patients, he could get home that much faster...

Kagura was glad to get out of the main hall and off to one of the side ones. It looked like a fight was starting to shape up with some of the other patients too, so it was probably best if they left. Besides, Bridget was right, they wouldn't make any progress at all if they stood around wondering what if.

"Mm. You're right. We'll just have to try to get as far as we can."

"That's all we can do for now." Bridget smiled, hoping to reassure her that things would work out and headed down the hallway.

The smell of blood was almost totally gone now, and Bourne could feel the drug begin to fade. The gore had been a shock, but not shocking enough. He kept on his guard, his flashlight swinging around the area so he could see. Nothing interesting here. He looked down the next hallway, which was empty, and went down it.
