Nightshift 34: Bus Unloading Area

Aug 15, 2008 16:27

[ from here]Wally shivered as he stepped out into the cool night air. They seemed to be in some kind of parking area - a few buses were throwing huge shadows across the ground which, combined with the general lack of lighting and cold breeze, sent a chill down his spine. Not that he was afraid or anything, it was just a little creepy, that was all ( Read more... )

Stepping out was amazingly... simple. Rhode hadn't ever thought it would just be so easy to go right out the front door. Why hadn't she thought to do so before now?! She went out a little ahead of Rainier, letting go of his hand to trot out into the nighttime air. It was a little thrilling to be out of the building and out of the sight of the people in white like this. More like the freedom she liked.

She twirled a bit on the grass and looked up towards the sky, specifically the roof. "I don't see any."

Well, that had been... easy. Remarkably so. And it instantly put Ranier on guard because things should not be so easy. It just didn't make any sense to have them locked up and then make it so simple to just walk outside. He followed her gaze up to the roof, noticing the distinct absence of birds. "I noticed," he said with dry amusement, glad that he wasn't about to be used as a shield at this particular moment in time. He would protect the lady to the best of his abilities, but he wasn't about to hope for something to attack in order to do that.

Rhode wasn't so much on edge as she was excited. It usually took a lot to put her completely on edge anyway, even with her powers being what they were. Some habits were just hard to break.

Her attention came away from the roof and she looked out around the place. There were others there, most human (she thought), but none close enough to where she and Rainier were to matter. Maybe they really could just walk right on out.

[for some reason, I can't access the maps! Is this happening for you?]

Rainier on the other hand, had been on edge since arriving here, and that was unlikely to change any time soon considering he was a Warlord Prince, dragged out of his own world and thrown into danger without a Queen around to reign in his temper. He watched his surroundings carefully as they headed towards the gate, noticing the other people and tensing up slightly, even though they probably weren't the threat here.

"I suppose that we just keep heading towards the gate then?" he murmured to the girl. It seemed far too easy and easy was something that he distrusted here.

"Don't see why not!" Rhode wasn't about to stop for any of the other floundering patients with their problems. They weren't her problems, so why should she? Charity just wasn't her thing, and this place had made that trait of hers come out even more for the week and some she'd been held captive. Even a Noah could become bitter over being forced to do things.

She had a point and the way that she said it was so matter-of-fact, so female, that he laughed softly, nodding his agreement. "Indeed. We might as well try for the obvious route before getting more complex with things." Who knew, maybe the person in charge had never anticipated anyone trying the utterly obvious. He doubted it, but at least that would close off one avenue so that he could start thinking more creatively.

"Then let's go!" If the birds weren't going to attack, then there was no point in waiting for them. Rhode knew they'd go after Rainier, but there was also the chance that they would come after her again as well. There were enough scars in her back from the last time, and she didn't want any more reminders of why she hated this place so much.

She didn't lead they way exactly, but she did grab his hand again and tug him down the path. A drag-lead, it could have been called, but they were both together. That would make it easier if the birds did decide to be fashionably late.

Her dragging didn't have that much effect considering he was rather larger than her, but Rainier followed along anyway, keeping pace with her easily as they crossed the grounds. It would probably have been safer and wiser to stick to the wall and the shadows, but it felt so much better to walk out confidently across the grounds like this.Skulking in the shadows would have pricked at his pride too much.

Noahs had pride as well, but Rhode would have gladly gone through the shadows if it had been something she'd wanted to do, not because she was scared of anything. She liked her freedom and exploited it often. At the moment though, going through the shadows was not something she wanted to do. She wanted to walk out the path as though it had been set there just for her! And, well, her apparent escort, but the escort wasn't ever who the carpet was for.
