Nightshift 34: M51-M60 Hallway

The doors had unlocked, and Albel the Wicked didn't waste any time with moving out into the hallway. It was still early, so no one was around just yet. Not that the warrior was going to complain about that ( Read more... )

Recluse opened the door as soon as it unlocked, stepping out into the dark corridor. No reason to waste time.

As he went out into the hallway, Fox did his best not to think about the trip to Doyleton. The last time they had gone, Snake had still been here.

Everything that day had been leading up to it, the buses running late and getting stuck outside, their attempted escape. He remembered that Snake had said this wasn't real, but he had been wrong.

This was just as real as the rest of his life had been. Full of pain and loss. But Lyta made dealing with all of that worth it. With her around it was more than just fighting to bring this place down, fighting to end it.

Because maybe, just this once, there would be something to move onto after this, something more than another battle to be fought.

Sanosuke was again glad he didn't really have to go out of his way to get his best friend. At least Kenshin being close would help with the whole late thing. He just had to hope Kenshin was ready to go when he got there. Which was why Sano seriously considered kicking his door in before he even knocked.

Except with Kenshin already on edge about Okita (for pretty good reason), even Sano thought that would be a very bad idea.

So instead he came to a stop in front of Kenshin's door, pounding on it with all the patience he normally showed. "Hey Kenshin!" Sanosuke still grinned though, shouting eagerly through the door. "Hurry up, would you? You take longer than a woman to get ready sometimes."

Uh. Oops?

Figured the one time Kenshin was ready, something like this would happen. Sanosuke stared for a moment at the sprawled rurouni, as if he was thinking about what to say. Finally though, he just laughed, glad to have something that seemed so normal happen.

"There's the rurouni we all know and love." Sanosuke took a step forward, reaching out a hand to Kenshin so the guy could get himself up. "Didn't hit you too hard, did I? I can carry you to the rec field if you want."

It was about freaking time. There were Oreos and a sweet li'l Captain with Xigbar's name on him... them... whatever. When faced with that eventuality, who wouldn't beat feet to said place? So away Xigbar went, bow and other weapons in hand, grinning like anything in anticipation. Or at least what passed for it for Nobodies.

It was evening once again and Shadow was still caged.

He didn't know what he was expecting. Not once was he given any reason to think this was a temporary condition. But somehow, he assumed that if he just waited the collar would fade from his neck and he'd be able to be himself again instead of this horrible, mindless slave. But when the doctor announced the changing shift and Shadow remained still, waiting for an order he knew that it wasn't temporary. He was stuck like this.

Shadow wanted to rage, curse, to kill whoever had done this to him. Lord Dyran or perhaps one of the Doctors - he didn't care. He'd never felt so angry before. But the stranger remained motionless, oblivious to the temper that was locked inside. He waited for one of his masters to arrive and he wouldn't move from the bed until he was ordered to.

Shadow looked over at Keman as he entered. "My lord," he said, bowing his head.

Go away, Keman, Shadow said bitterly inside his own head. It looks as though I'll be like this for awhile.
