Nightshift 34: Activity's Shed

[From Here]Taking up the rusted old lock in hand, Hohenheim investigated it. It appeared that the locking mechanism itself was intact, but the rust would make it weaker. He turned the lock over as much as possible before determining the proper angle to hit the internal mechanism to have it open with the least amount of force required. He turned his ( Read more... )

The door was unlocked, meaning someone beat them to it, which wasn't necessarily a bad thing, since it saved them some effort.

Inside, another patient seemed to be up to something, but Archer didn't interfere since it wasn't his business. If the patient showed any ill intent towards them that was a whole different story.

He went to the shelves and picked an aluminum off the rack. Imagining a shikomizue in his mind before projecting that shape onto the bat. The aluminum bat took on a thinner, sharper form as Archer pumped mana into it. After a few moments, he was done and out of breath.

"Here," he said holding it out to his roommate.

"Eh?! Wh-when did you take my flashlight?! No, where was my flashlight!" Brook was shocked that Archer still knew so much more than he did! Was he not being told things?! Did Archer not trust him?! Or... or maybe he'd just been thoughtful to get it! Yes, that was probably it! Brook was just overexaggerating. "Ah, yes then, thank you for getting it for me," he nodded, deciding it was a good thing.

After the nod, he finally looked up to where Archer had brought him, eyes going wide again. "This is the place with the spiders!" he yelped, then tensed up so as not to cause himself to trip into any of them this time. Calm, yes, he could be calm! That was until Archer started with his odd magic again and spooked Brook out of his stance. "Ah!" he threw his hands up, ready to run, btu stopped when his friend held out a brand new shikomizue to him. He looked down and blinked. "Eh? Oh! Ah, thank you very much, Archer-san! Yohohoho! That certainly is a useful ability you have!"

"Your welcome," he replied, neglecting to inform Brook it was under his pillow. Perhaps his roommate would forget about it, and Archer would keep it until he found a replacement. He supposed it would have to depend on his mood tomorrow. A flashlight was invaluable for the nightshift.

"I trust you know to watch out for the blade?" he asked in a half serious, half joking tone. He'd made the outer shell, the cane, of the shikomizue metal as well, since there weren't any other materials available. A metal sheath would cause its blade to dull, but that shouldn't be a problem since his magecraft would only last the night. Well, there was the wooden bats, but Archer wasn't sure he should be mixing those things at his current capacity, perhaps tomorrow night.

"Mmm? Why of course I know to watch out for the blade! I am a swordsman, after all! A Samurai, even!" he announced, proud for what he was. "But, I suppose I should be more careful now. As a skeleton, taking injuries was much easier since only bone was being hit..." he gave the blade a long look, then turned his eyes to watch as the corresponding sheath was also crafted.

“Yo~ho~ Sorry I took so long, I ran into someone I knew along the way.” Yuuri announced while rubbing the back of his head sheepishly. Stepping past Hohenheim and further in the shed, Yuuri gave room for Wolfram to follow him in as he looked at what Hohenheim was doing. He’d never seen an alchemist at work.

Glancing at the four bats on the floor, Yuuri made his way over to the other side of the strange circle being drawn on the floor.

Wolfram followed cautiously, having already learned that it's not a good idea to be entering into a room at night without checking everywhere first. His flashlight scanned across the ceiling and along all the walls before he was satisfied that they weren't about to be nailed with a bat or a spider or something.

Walking next to Yuuri, he looked down at the strange symbols with a mix of curiosity and apprehension, unsure what was going on.

Humming to himself as he scratched his pen along the floor, Hohenheim had to used his flashlight to make certain that all the lines were intersecting at the right angles. The floor wasn't exactly the best place to be drawing his circle, but he couldn't well draw it out in the grass. This would just have to do ( ... )

Yuuri grinned brightly when when Hohenheim sat back and smiled. Again with the head patting. The young Maou laughed somewhat nervously at the gesture. Was this something he'd have to get used to on a daily basis?

"Ahh thank you." He muttered. Yuuri certainly hoped that Alchemy wasn't dangerous, but it didn't sound like it would be. It was similar to chemistry right? Nothing bad ever happened in that class, but he did hear the odd rumour from those in higher grades.

Shaking his head, Yuuri got rid of the thoughts in his mind as he remembered Wolfram standing next to him. "Oh right! Hoho this is Wolfram."
