Nightshift 34: Activity's Shed

[From Here]Taking up the rusted old lock in hand, Hohenheim investigated it. It appeared that the locking mechanism itself was intact, but the rust would make it weaker. He turned the lock over as much as possible before determining the proper angle to hit the internal mechanism to have it open with the least amount of force required. He turned his ( Read more... )

[ From Here]

“Yo~ho~ Sorry I took so long, I ran into someone I knew along the way.” Yuuri announced while rubbing the back of his head sheepishly. Stepping past Hohenheim and further in the shed, Yuuri gave room for Wolfram to follow him in as he looked at what Hohenheim was doing. He’d never seen an alchemist at work.

Glancing at the four bats on the floor, Yuuri made his way over to the other side of the strange circle being drawn on the floor.

Wolfram followed cautiously, having already learned that it's not a good idea to be entering into a room at night without checking everywhere first. His flashlight scanned across the ceiling and along all the walls before he was satisfied that they weren't about to be nailed with a bat or a spider or something.

Walking next to Yuuri, he looked down at the strange symbols with a mix of curiosity and apprehension, unsure what was going on.

Humming to himself as he scratched his pen along the floor, Hohenheim had to used his flashlight to make certain that all the lines were intersecting at the right angles. The floor wasn't exactly the best place to be drawing his circle, but he couldn't well draw it out in the grass. This would just have to do ( ... )

Yuuri grinned brightly when when Hohenheim sat back and smiled. Again with the head patting. The young Maou laughed somewhat nervously at the gesture. Was this something he'd have to get used to on a daily basis?

"Ahh thank you." He muttered. Yuuri certainly hoped that Alchemy wasn't dangerous, but it didn't sound like it would be. It was similar to chemistry right? Nothing bad ever happened in that class, but he did hear the odd rumour from those in higher grades.

Shaking his head, Yuuri got rid of the thoughts in his mind as he remembered Wolfram standing next to him. "Oh right! Hoho this is Wolfram."

"Alchemy? ...Like what Roy Mustang was talking about?"

That perked Wolfram's interest. Wasn't that what he'd mentioned that the other man used for making weapons with? Perhaps Yuuri had stumbled onto something bigger than he'd thought, considering the number of nights he would have to wait on Roy.

"How does it work?"

Hohenheim nodded his head at the introduction, shuffling back to his place beside his transmutation circle and inspecting it. It was perfect, he knew, but examining it solidified the ramification that he could once again transmute. "Yes, my full name is Hohenheim, but Yuuri here understandably has trouble with it." Plus, those boyhood memories came every time Yuuri called him that ( ... )

Hohenheim lost Yuuri the moment he started speaking about decomposing and fabricating all of the different elements. He wasn't a science student. Why couldn't things be more like baseball? He tried to keep up, despite failing at his attempts, and nodded as if he was understanding it all. Yuuri was getting the impression that he needed to study harder in the science areas.

Smiling awkwardly at the question of ease, Yuuri glanced over towards Wolfram then back again as he muttered. "Sounds easy enough."

It was hard to keep a straight face at the explanation, and Wolfram nodded as seriously as possible as he attempted to listen. ...Not that he really understood it any better than Yuuri did. The trick was to act like you did, of course. Manners and all.

"Is that why Roy needed the metal?" he asked. He opened up his pillowcase, showing Hohenhiem the various silverware and utensils that he'd acquired the night before thanks to the disastrous stop in the kitchen.

"I've been told that there's a way to get a sword if you found the right materials."

Ah, he had completely lost them both. He really needed to work on his explanations. This was the reason he only taught at a university level apparently, and even then, he was normally asked many questions. It was enough to be keen on his subject of expertise.

"...well, Colonel Mustang is part of a group that creates weapons of one's choice, so I assume there is the requirement of gathering the materials." He stepped forward and peered into Wolfram's pillow case, rubbing his chin with his fingers. "Ah, plenty of steel and aluminum, I see."

There seemed to be enough metal to form a sword. "Alchemy could form them together into a sword."

This Colonel Mustard fellow must have been someone important if both Wolfram and Hohenheim knew about him. Was there something that he was missing out on? Well, Wolfram had technically been here for three days while he'd only arrived this morning.

"Does this mean that you could make a sword for Wolfram with this?" Yuuri asked as he glanced between the pillowcase and up to Hohenheim. He had no doubt that Wolfram would feel better if he had a sword, since the blonde Mazoku was a swordsman... or was he just understanding things wrong again?

The man definitely seemed to know what he was doing, Wolfram would give him that. And despite how complicated the actual magic behind it was, he was at least right about the fact that his collected metal could be forged into something new. It was... a rather exciting thought. Or maybe exciting wasn't the right word; he would just feel ten times more comfortable with a blade than without one, is all.

He looked at Hohenhiem questionably, but he didn't say anything. This was Yuuri's meeting, his request, and if only one of them could get a weapon to defend themselves with, he'd feel safer if it was in Yuuri's hands.

Scratching the back of his head, Hohenheim looked back in the pillow case carrying the metal. If his other endevours in alchemy here were any consolation, doing too much would tire him. Though, he felt a little comfortable letting young men run about in a place like this without any sort of weapondry to defend themselves with. There really was no telling what they could run into here ( ... )

"Ahh yeah, I can understand that." And Yuuri could understand entirely what it meant to feel tired and exhausted after using power. Using his Maryoku always tended to tired him out - especially when he transformed into the Maou. "I wouldn't want you to push yourself too hard for us Hoho."

Yuuri's words trailed off; however, when he watched Hohenheim crouch down on the floor. The young Maou had no idea what to expect. Would it be anything like Anissina's experiments? There was a small part of him that hoped not, but there was definitely something in Hohenheim's movements as Yuuri watched the older man intently. What would happen?

His eyes widened impossibly large in astonishment as the circle suddenly began to glow. He'd seen some pretty amazing things in his lifetime, but he'd never seen anything quite like it. There was no hiding his excitement at the transmutation, and as the light faded away and Hohenheim sat back, Yuuri couldn't even consider hiding such excitement as he grinned.

"That's so cool!" The young Maou exclaimed. ( ... )

Saying that he was going to make a weapon was one thing. But actually watching the process was something else entirely. Wolfram had pulled back a little when the circle began to glow, not exactly scared but cautious nonetheless. When it was over...

Well, it definitely looked impressive. And Yuuri was definitely excited enough. He offered Hohenhiem a look of thanks on behalf of his fiance before rubbing at his temples a little, his own tiredness starting to give him a headache.

"Just remember that it's for defense, and we aren't going out looking for trouble. You still need a lot of training that way."

That was much more tiring than he cared to admit. There were definite limitations on his alchemy, but he really wondered how far he could push before he needed a real break from the activity. He felt as tired as when he had trasmuted rock against the hound on the first night, though he was enlightened by Yuuri's enthusiasm ( ... )

"Thank you Hoho," His grin seemed to widen further, if that was at all possible, when Hohenheim said it was alright to pick the bat up. Placing the bat Wolfram had given him against the shed wall, Yuuri reached forward to pick up the newly formed bat. Lurching forward subtly at the new weight, but it wasn't any heavier than dealing with Morgif ( ... )
