Eventually, he reached the end of the hallway he was currently in and found himself staring at a door. He briefly wondered if it was locked. He turned the door handle

In his left hand, he clutched a spear, the point tilted down and resting in the earth.

The first thing Mal did as he stepped outside was lift his head to the sky. There weren't many stars out and none of them seemed to be in any patterns he was familiar with. Wash would probably have had a better idea, but there was no point in dwelling on that.
Once he leveled his gaze forward, he noticed that there was someone ahead of him. He glanced over his shoulder at Zelos. There was a good chance the figure was simply another patient wandering around just the same as they were, but Mal wasn't a trusting man. It was best to be cautious if he didn't want to get killed.
"Who's there?" he called out, already falling into a defensive stance.

Mal seemed to enjoy the fresh air as well. It was a welcome change from the stuffy atmosphere inside.
Zelos spotted the other figure in the field as well, and understood Mal's distrust. He made his half cocked grin and nodded in understanding.
"Give us a heads up if you're a bad guy!" Zelos called out after Mal. He did it because annoying the older guy was kind of fun, but also because friend or foe, they'd know soon anyway.

"And what if I was a badguy, hmmm?" Albel replied to the redhead - apparantly called Zelos according to the lady, his face twisting into a smirk. He crossed his arms. "It totally depends on what you define as a 'bad guy'."
If only Albel hadn't turned around, he might've noticed a very familiar creature standing in the middle of the field. But, since his back was turned, he didn't.

When a girl came up from behind, he glanced over his shoulder at her. They had been close to the female block, then. Well, most likely. How had they missed it? Well, there was no point in worrying about that now. He was outside and he planned to have a look around.
He glanced at Zelos, who apparently knew the girl (he apparently knew a lot of girls), before stepping further onto the field and therefore closer to the first stranger. Was it possible they could find a way out? There was only one way to know, so he stepped past dark-haired stranger to see what laid ahead.

"Aerith!" he greeted, always happy to see a familiar face, especially when it was a female. He noticed her caution and held out an arm in invitation. "Don't be so shy. Come closer to me, and I'll keep you safe."
He grinned at the other man's response. Nice one. "You have a point," Zelos said fairly. "As long as you aren't going to give us any trouble, I think we can call you an acquaintance for now."
Zelos looked over at Mal again, who once more seemed to be taking the lead. Peering past the older man, he thought he saw something in the distance, but it was so dark that it could have just been his eyes tricking him.

The captain shot a glance at the person walking past him, not saying a word. He turned around and noticed that something was there, in the middle of the field. It stood perfectly still, like a statue. The darkness made it hard to see it's shape, and his flashlight didn't reach far enough for him to see.
Perhaps it was a statue? But he already knew that wasn't true - besides the fact it was a rather unlogic place to put a statue. His crimson eyes glared at the person/object as he followed the other man to the middle of the field. Whatever the shape was, Albel was curious to find out.
As he came closer to this shape, his heart skipped a beat as soon as he could make out what was standing there in front of him. He stopped dead in his tracks, ( ... )

In only a few moments, though, the flashlights grazed over his helmet-head. The moment one beam passed across the thin slit on the side of the helmet, he turned - his head slowly moving to the side to aim the front point at the field's visitors.
Other than that, he did not move.

Apparently he wasn't the only one, since the younger man near him seemed tense himself. He glanced quickly over his shoulder at the rest of the group and sighed.
As the flashlights revealed the unnatural head of whatever it was, along with the gritty skin and red-splattered cloth, Mal started to wonder if they were in the right place. It figured that going outside would go hand in hand with danger.
There was an obvious question - what is that thing? - but Mal kept it to himself. The second question would be what to do about this predicament. Fighting seemed like a horrible idea, seeing that he didn't have a gun while that thing appeared to have some manner of weapon.
The captain turned to Zelos. "Were you going to show me how much of a vision you are?" he asked with a smirk.

He noticed the other kid - whoever he was - had seen that thing in the field along with them, and he didn't seem to happy to see it. Zelos pointed his flashlight in its direction, taking note of the pointy object in its hand and decided he wasn't too happy to see it either. He made sure Aerith was behind him as he turned ( ... )

That didn't mean Albel was a coward, he'd face death if it stood in front of him and spit it in it's face while he was at it. But voluntarily throwing yourself into a battle you can't even hope to win was both reckless and foolish, even in his eyes. Especially when you were at a disadvantage, and Albel doubted his current...acquintances were better equiped then he was.
It didn't mean Albel was very happy with this situation though. It hurt his pride majorly to admit it, but it seemed wise to be cautious and avoid fighting with this monster.
He clenched his teeth in frustration, unsure what to do.

But when they fell silent, his entire body turned, and Pyramid Head began to stride towards them. No longer were his movements slow and jerky, as if he weren't used to walking in this body. No, he moved purposefully, his left hand lifting his spear up from the ground to point directly at the group.
And without his sword to weigh him down, he was much faster.
Too much faster.
