Night 29: F21-F30 Hall

Jan 18, 2008 15:38

It wasn't the man who spoke, but a woman, someone whose voice Ururu didn't recognize. But it was okay, because she'd woken up like she had hoped, right at the start of everything. It didn't take long for the girl to get her things, since the flashlight was the only one she thought was really important to carry. She'd need her hands free as much ( Read more... )

By the time she came around from her well needed nap, her roommate had already come and gone without so much as a word. Rhode was pretty thankful that the human girl hadn't bothered her (as her foul mood might have provoked her into attacking), but that left her alone in the room. All alone with herself and her thoughts.

Being alone at the moment was bad. Her emotions were such a tangled mess that she couldn't even focus on what she wanted to do: lie there and actually sleep for once, tear the room apart somehow, venture outside and tear something out there apart, find Allen Walker... what should have been at the top of her list had been pressed down in her priorities, if she could even claim to still have those. The conversation with him and Renji had been such a mess literally! She didn't know if it was even safe to go looking for him. Or if she liked him as she thought she did. Did she like him? Was that fabricated as well?

She rolled over and buried her face in her pillow. What could she do?! What did she want to do?! Taking ( ... )

Something alerted her after she rolled over. A very small sound, then a following loud sound hitting against the tile. The first sound was soft enough to have been just some sheets falling when she tugged at the sheets, but the second was too loud - nearly sounding as if a horse had struck the floor once. Rhode curled up again beneath the sheets, trying to ignore it as maybe being that her roommate had returned, but the motion only earned a second clopping of something to the floor. She couldn't ignore it a second time and sat up, throwing her pillow in the direction of the noise. "Be quiet," she ordered. Her nerves had worn thin by this point, so even the slightest thing was bothering her ( ... )

The change was all too quick and would have startled anyone who might have been present in the room to see it happen. The dull gray clothes were thrown aside as if they were used rags in favor of the newly discovered attire. It was by no means an unfamiliar feeling to have the clothes back on; they were most definitely hers. She knew the feel, the smell, and especially the tiny details that only she would have known of: the bite marks on the bottom of the cross necklace where she'd chewed when bored, the hole in the left side of her right sock she'd torn on accident while playing - no one would know how to recreate those without being her.

Without being Rhode Camelot, at least. Rhode Camelot was real now, real in the clothes, and until the girl could find a reason not to believe that the clothes didn't belong to her, she would be Rhode Camelot. Out of anything, that was what she wanted ( ... )

The door slammed open and Rhode twirled out into the hallway. She nearly lost her balance due to the lack of an umbrella, but she righted herself quickly, smile still in place. Nothing was going to dampen her mood tonight.

She did make a note to go in search of a substitute umbrella. Twirling was hard enough when one didn't have a balancer like Relo. A plain umbrella wouldn't be as entertaining as Relo, but she could bet it wouldn't be so annoying. And really, her outfit wasn't complete without the Earl's "borrowed" umbrella. Hopefully she could find a good color. Purple or pink, maybe black would work. Or red. A deep, dark, bloody red.

And so, it was night once again. Bella couldn’t help but frown at the thought of going out - though, she had promised Rika she would find her. Plus, Edward was undoubtedly coming, so it wasn’t like she was going to be searching alone.

No matter. She had a pipe. She could totally smash some monster’s head in if it called for it.

Moving silently around her room, Bella let out a slight hiss when she smashed her knee against the bedpost, her eyes shutting. Of course. “Stupid … darkness.” The teenage girl mumbled before reaching under her pillow to grasp onto her flashlight. Clicking it on, she let out a content sigh and allowed herself to fall back on her bed as she waited.

[Skipping several halls from here because I'm lazy, etc. etc.]

It seemed nothing was amiss for tonight. For now. Eventually, karma would be coming around the corner, ready to bite him again.

Without a paltry knock, Edward entered Bella's room after a quick scan of the connecting hallway and the empty room. The only light was the shining circle from the girl's flashlight, reflecting off the ceiling.

The electricity going off every night was getting quite inconvenient.

"I suppose it is quite boring to sit here, waiting for me," he introduced himself, stepping into the room. "How was your visitor shift, Bella? I've heard tale that's what has been happening for the past few hours."

Bella jumped slightly when her door suddenly opened, a gasp escaping her lips as fear coursed through her - oh, only Edward. Releasing the gasp in a soft sigh, she was up in a matter of seconds, a bright smile on her face. “Of course. I mean, all the excitement is outside, after all. Monster clubbing? Count me in ( ... )

Edward rolled his eyes at her reply, biting back a retort.

But he froze at the name of Jake, even after Bella continued on in a rush. A trademark stillness, like that of a statue. Quite honestly, most of him had forgotten about the other boy, for the time being. It was enough worrying about the million things that had piled up against him. He hadn't expected him to be the visitor of choice ( ... )

Signum wasted no time; when her door unlocked she was already waiting patiently beside it, tattered coat donned, little-used flashlight and trowels (meager weapons though they were against the sword she'd lost) at hand.

The newness of the nightly announcement went unappreciated; Signum didn't have the imagination to really appreciate the atmosphere it created. Instead she only waited for the telltale click of the lock at the speech's end, then opened the door and moved carefully out into the hall.

After brief look around the hall to make sure nothing was out of the ordinary she settled in to wait outside Hokuto's door.

She ran out a few minutes after the lights had turned out, dressed in her now-usual Nightshift outfit; she'd tried to save flashlight power by dressing in the dark. It didn't work for the garters, and she'd actually fallen over once... she'd rolled instead of actually hurting herself, but then lay on the floor and giggled helplessly for a bit. At least she could see the humor in her situation. "Sorry! I wasn't sure when it's safe to change; random room checks wouldn't surprise me."

Knowing well that this counted as running late, she was a little flustered; consequently, it took her a second to realize that just maybe, she should show some respect to her newly-appointed immediate superior. "Good evening, Signum-fukutaichou," she added, giving a quick bow. "I hope to serve you well."

Okay, it was probably still over the top. Better than not respectful enough?

"Do you need to change?" Signum asked, a bit pointedly. It was good that she had real shoes now, at least, but... the rest of it was pretty useless. It had no more protective value than the patient uniforms, and the way it exposed her arms it might actually have less, if there were any dangers here so meager a thin layer of cloth would attenuate them.

"You're not a knight, Hokuto. You don't serve me, you take your orders from me. All I require is that you follow mine as you have Hinamori's." With this correction, she turned to the hall entrance and their next destination.

"...and that next time, you dress faster" she added with a hint of a smirk.

Hokuto grinned back. Wow, Signum showing a sense of humor? "Okay. I thought I should get in the habit of acting like a soldier, but since I don't have the training yet, I guess it isn't working."

For the last part, she assured dryly, "Don't worry, I will." There were a few things she could do, like put the hated Landels uniform on over her own clothes in case of surprise nurse visits; even the shorts and vest shouldn't really show underneath. If she didn't think she would be asked to get out of bed, she could change everything but her shirt before lights out and be out the door faster that way.

Tonight certainly sounded like it would be interesting, between the meeting with the Cooking Club and exploring new areas of the basement. It was a good thing Hokuto had never liked the idea of a quiet life anyway...

Okay, that wasn't creepy at all.

Only that was about the complete opposite of what Yukari thought about the announcement that came on. It wasn't the "evil head doctor" she was told about, but she guessed everyone else expected it just as much as she did. Get out, it said-- oh yeah, she was definitely doing that. She needed to, if she wanted to find out what exactly this place is and how she could ever get out.

She wasn't too worried about exiting the room all by herself. There may have been something out there, but Yukari highly doubted it was anything like a Shadow. With as many times as she's faced those, she had the courage to go up against anything that wasn't one. When she peered out into the hallway through the suddenly unlocked door, there was nothing there that proved itself to be dangerous. Now, with determination on her mind, she slipped out, taking careful steps into the darkness ( ... )

No, no, no, no, no -

Diva’s room was in stark ruin by the time the doors unlocked. Her visitation shift had ended, her visitors had long since signed out, and Diva had fought against a group of hospital employees--fought and fought and fought, had clawed and kicked and punched each of them at least once, her eyes never having glowed brighter. And then somehow one had gotten a needle into here, then again, and she was a slave to human drugs once again.

- those children, my children, they took them away from me -

Put into that room again, with the door that just wouldn’t open no matter how hard she battered it. Instead she’d taken to ravaging whatever would yield to her: the furniture, the cloth, even the walls. Sedated or not, she wrecked whatever she could get her hands on, too wrathful to do anything but.

Then the click of the lock. The Chiropteran flung herself at the door, knocking it open, and darted out into the open hallway. Someone would pay. They’d all pay.
