This was no night to be lingering; Aidou sealed up M52 in his usual fashion and left hurriedly enough. He ignored the intercom beyond noting, with not a little suspicion, that 'wandered off' meant the usual babbling idiot was possibly planning something else. Who knew. The disgusting, rasping nurse's words weren't worth thinking on

"Here." Pointing at the door with his thumb, Sanosuke actually waited for Zuko to catch up. "It's where a guy I know told me to meet him. He's supposed to have been here for a few days, and his memory's off, but he's the most trustworthy person I know."
Which didn't sound as complimentary as Sanosuke meant it to be, but that didn't matter to the man. He pounded hard on the door a couple of times, Kenshin one of the few who would earn the courtesy of Sano's patience before the man kicked the door open.
At least for a minute or two.

Zuko waited silently. Trustworthy and memory problems didn't sound like they went hand in hand. But he was already at the door, so he might as well see what this man had to say...
When the door opened they were greeted by a short, young man with red hair, also wearing the hideous grey uniform. Zuko's eyes immediately went to the scar on the man's face, but quickly averted his gaze when he realized Kenshin was looking at the one on Zuko's face.
"I--," The prince found himself in a predicament as Kenshin began introductions. Neither of these men seemed to recognize Zuko on sight, so his first instinct was to lie. But he remembered the Earth Kingdom town he'd stayed at months ago, how they trusted him before they learned who he was and what he could do. If they were going to attack him he'd rather get that out of the way BEFORE they became potential allies.
"My name is Zuko," he stiffly replied after the pause, and returned Kenshin's bow, his whole body tense and ready to fight.

"Dual swords-- but I can handle myself without them," Zuko tried to sound polite, but he did mind Kenshin asking, if only because he had more important questions to be answered. "What is this place? Why can't I-- is there another solar eclipse happening?" The last question came out with a hint of distress; he didn't want to outright admit to strangers that he couldn't firebend, but he'd never felt so powerless before.

So he'd just have to be patient. Not his strongest suit, but he'd manage.
Besides, Zuko was giving them more than enough to think about, and the man raised an eyebrow at the kid. "Solar eclipse?" The pen still in his mouth wiggled a bit as he spoke. "Pretty sure the voice ghost said it was night time. Don't know what that has to do with anything, though."
One of them might, however, and Sanosuke looked to Kenshin expectantly. "So you going to tell us what's going on? From the talk you were having on that message thing, it sounds like we're supposed to be doing something big right about now."

But no solar eclipse? And six years ago? That made no sense he'd seen one just happen a few days ago! He'd never heard of Hokkaido either. Maybe Kenshin came from the swamps, Zuko thought he'd heard from his Uncle that the people who lived there had a funny way of speaking.
Zuko entered the room and took a seat in one of the chairs. Now he felt stupid for asking about the eclipse; it got dark during it, but not this dark. That left his other idea, that someone who was adept at Ty Lee's pressure point attacks-- or even Ty Lee herself, had temporarily disabled him. As long as it's not permanent-- I've never heard of it being permanent...

Zuko stared at the men incredulously, deciding whether the situation demanded him to laugh or scream. According to Kenshin and Sanosuke it sounded like they were all in some spirit world loony bin. Couldn't any karmic punishment have waited until AFTER he'd helped the Avatar save the world? Or did being here just mean he was dead? He patted his chest. It didn't feel like he was dead... Zuko glared at the two men. He desperately wanted to believe they were just crazy, but despite their outrageous claims there wasn't anything in their behavior that made them seem touched in the head. Well, besides the way Kenshin kept calling himself 'this one' and how Sanosuke had abducted him in the hallway-- Okay, maybe they are a little crazyUnfortunately one important fact rang true in Kenshin's explanation, and that was that Zuko could not firebend. And he'd seen all the prisoners in the hallways, what kind of prison allowed them to run amok like that? He wondered what his uncle would do in this situation; he'd probably eat up what ( ... )
