No matter how much Rukia wanted to stay unconscious and forget everything that was going on, her mind wouldn't let her do so. Not long after the nurse and orderly put her in bed, she stirred, looking around her room and blinking slowly. Things were still blurry from the sedatives, and her vision still dimmed from the strange child the night before

"Capt'n... Hissugaya," she mumbled, trying to look awake. "I'm sorry." Then she frowned, not really sure why she had said that. She rubbed one eye clumsily with her bandaged hand. "How're you?" That was a good place to start a conversation.

After a few seconds, she swallowed and opened her eyes again. One hand lazily reached out to brush against his arm, but missed completely. "Capt'n, you weren't one o' them, were you? You din't want me dead, right?"

Since nightshift had been as unproductive as last time, Riku decided to sleep in for breakfast. He realized it was more likely a move to come from Sora or Kairi, however, the random fatigue that had hit him was too difficult to ignore. He tried, of course, obligation and worry over his friends (last time he'd missed out on the nightshift, Sora returned wounded beyond his expectation), but somehow the sleep won out ( ... )

Opening her eyes to look at her old friend, Kairi flashed him a small smile, sitting up slightly in the chair she was sitting in. Ignoring the flames that burnt at her toes, she crossed one leg over the other, while her hands sat in her lap. “Good morning Riku,” she said cheerfully enough, making sure to keep any pain out of her posture or tone of voice. She knew Riku was good at figuring these types of things out. If there were anything she didn’t want, it would be having Riku not worry about her. He had enough to worry about as it was.
Leaning back once she was comfortable, she kept her hands in her lap, hands clasping onto each other tightly, her nails digging into her knuckles. “It feels like I haven’t seen you in forever! How’re you doing? Isn’t this place boring?” at this, she let out a soft laugh, turning her eyes back to the window.

No boys, just men. When Kairi smiled, Riku shook his head again (yes, by that time he'd turned to see her face). There was that sensation again, the air of wrongness around the scene. Faint, definitely compared to what it could have been, but visible enough to make him wonder if it really was confusion that had him pause earlier. Logically, it had to be, but if he considered an alternative (which he was beginning to explore anyway), then the nonsense may have ( ... )

Arriving in the Sun Room, the talkative orderly continued speaking. "I'll be back later, I'm going to leave Ralf here to make sure everything is just peachy for you, okay? If you need anything, just ask him."
Right. He's here to make sure I don't kill anybody. Riddick simply turned away as Ralf let go of him. The killer ignored everyone else in the room (a bunch of kids?) and walked over to the bulletin board. Information, badly disorganized, but still information... he perused it at his leasure, with a surrepticious glance up at the high balcony surrounding the room. Too far to jump.

Haku had found nothing interesting to be gained at breakfast, aside from finding that his Master was alive and, presumably, well, and finding another person he would have to keep an eye on.
He declined the Game Room, telling the male nurse that came to collect him that he was simply not up for any games right now. He was led into the Sun Room, where he walked over to the board, checking for any new information.
He glanced up at the man already there, then returned to browsing the messages. He always did seem to find himself around large, potentially deadly men. Why was that?

Ah, a partial map showing the way to the patient possessions room... but a note it wasn't the belongings you'd expect. Damn. From the corner of his eye he saw a nurse approach the orderly who had been left to watch him, and after a quick whisper they both left the room. So much for "if you need anything." Good riddance.
There was so much information and bad handwriting on this board it was difficult to sort through it all, but he kept reading for the moment. The room was becoming more crowded and scraps of conversation proved worth listening in on.

The large man beside him was harder to dismiss. He did not fail to notice that the orderly that had seemed to be watching them had left with a nurse, probably to deal with a fight or other such futile issue. He fought the urge to sigh in exasperation and kept his gaze focused on the board.
"Play along for now," he said, voice soft and empty of anything that could be called an emotion. He hoped he'd read this man right. He wasn't in the mood to play the happy, sweet, innocent boy if he didn't have to. "Makes life easier for you and everyone else."

He chose a seat by a window (able to actually look out of one) and wondered if Lee was alright. He'd been pretty down last night. He mulled over the idea of asking around and seeing if he was okay or not and eyed the bulletin board...

People who are themselves natural worriers can often easily recognize worry in others. Armand was cleaner despite the nurse not being thrilled at how he'd wanted to get clean. The privacyof the bathroom had been welcome. But now he sought company. His hair dripped down his back onto the annoying short-sleeved shirt, but he didn't want to tie it back until it was drier.
He approached the young man sitting by the window, the window itself being almost as attractive as the possible conversation partner. Armand hesitated just a few feet away while he worried the ragged strip of cloth in his hands that he'd use for his hair later.
Then all at once, he lifted his chin and asked, "May I join you, citoyen?"

"What did you call me?" He didn't care if the guy wanted to sit, but if he was going to insult Takaya, then he obviously was looking for a fight.

"I'm Armand St. Just," he added hurriedly and bowed. "I could go, if you prefer. I... wanted to look out the window, too."

That is, if the scars burning through to his bones weren't reminding him of exactly what was going to happen today. Or what would happen if he slept and what would come of it. Eventually. Inevitably.
Hisoka entered the Sun Room with his shoulders visibly slumped. His bones felt heavy with the dread and exhaustion, anticipation running wildly through his veins. He was definitely getting too old for this. The empath chose an empty couch and with little attention to those around him, Hisoka crawled onto it and curled up, eyes tracing designs in the cushions.
He wouldn't sleep, but he could rest.
