Nightshift 24 - Courtyard

Jun 04, 2007 13:15

[from here]Without much difficulty, Xemnas finally reached the courtyard. His orange eyes scanned his surroundings as he carefully moved though the darkness, on his guard for a possible ambush. He had not put on his flashlight, as it would attract unwanted attention. The Superior didn't want any unnecessary distractions, after all ( Read more... )

(( Entering in from here))

The stench in the air was thick the moment Yuber stepped out into the courtyard, and as the loud crashing sounds drew his attention, the black knight couldn’t help by have his attention stolen to the sight. It was a creature like he’d never seen before, standing there with spears in hand as it attempted to attack two of the humans close by it.

Standing directly behind his ally, the black knight felt himself grow excited with a challenge as his mismatched sight remained focused on that rather large creature up ahead. The matter of fact that he was without the use of his True Rune didn’t bother the warrior, nor the fact that he was currently without his true weapon. All that mattered was the darkness he could feel emanating from this chaotic creature.

Judging from the call, his companion knew one of the humans being attacked, but he held no desire or reason to aid them. “From the looks of the situation, it seems as though we’ve stumbled on something rather chaotic.” Yuber needlessly summarised while the corner of his lips upturned into a pleased smile.

"M-maybe it won't want to be chaotic over here, though..." Usopp hoped, shivering still. It was huge, and now that Usopp had locked eyes onto it he felt something in the back of his neck travelling down the length of his spine, a familiar sensation he called 'pure terror.' Though it usually wasn't this strong. He hoped the monster couldn't hear the very loud sound of his knees knocking together--heck, he hoped his ally couldn't hear it...

Oh crap, he had just yelled right over there, hadn't he? Maybe it wouldn't turn around...

But his roommate was up there! Sitting on a wall, but that thing looked like it could go through walls as easy as it could go through people. Hell, even Usopp could break down a wall if he really had to, that thing looked like it could smash through whole cities.

There was still one chance, of course.

"Muh... maybe it's friendly."

“Hmm something that is highly unlikely.” The black knight murmured. Folding his arms across his chest, Yuber stared lazily down towards the small group as one by one, they disappeared over to the other side of the wall. There was a strong stench of fear hanging in the air, and as his mismatched gaze travelled lower, Yuber didn’t bother stopping the amused smirk from curving at his lips as he found its origins.

The calls one from the other group made drew the knight’s attention back to the creature. It seemed to just be standing there for one odd reason or another. With its sighted prey gone did it not have enough of a mental capacity to locate new prey? Or did it have to be set right before this creature’s line of sight?

His first question seemed to be right on target as the creature remained standing there with its attentions focused firmly on its lost prey. There was still a desire to create chaos inside of him, but it was hardly exciting to do with a creature that was so single minded. Not to mention he had allied himself with Usopp, and there were certain responsibilities that came with that With a glance down to his ally, the black knight knew that his companion wouldn’t be able to handle a high stress battle, not after what he’d witnessed of the other during the attack of those bats.

Taking a step to the side, Yuber brushed back a few strands of hair as the tresses fell past his shoulders. “What is it you wish to do?”

"Y-y... y'know what?" Usopp stuttered in response. He wished very much to reach down and stop his knees from knocking, very much indeed, but his hands and arms were full. He heard the shouts of warning, and he heeded them--oh, he sure heeded them--but didn't respond, as the figures vanished over the edge of the wall. "I... it's chaotic to fight, buh... but this... is not so chaotic... I mean... you know what'd be really really chaotic?!"

He started backing up, past Yuber, his eyes still locked on the horrible monster.

"Wah... walking right through the Sun Room and then to my room like we didn't see anything at all!" Then he turned and dashed to the relative safety of the cafeteria, expecting Yuber to follow. It was surprising how fast he could move burdened when he had motivation.

The black knight had already guessed his ally’s answer the moment Usopp muttered his first syllable. The stutter in his companion’s voice was enough to inform Yuber of the others desire to retreat. He couldn’t say that he was surprised either, but as his eyes found themselves lingering on the still creature, Yuber allowed reason to dictate his actions.

His abilities seemed to be acting up and were thus unpredictable. That in itself was enough to hold the knight back, but as his mismatched gaze travelled down to the weapons in his possession, Yuber doubted that these knives would be nearly as effective against this creature like it was with the bats.

He needed to fully test his abilities, but it would be a fool’s idea to go up against something which needed far more than a butter knife. With that decision in mind, Yuber waited until Usopp disappeared back through the doors leading into the cafeteria. He said nothing in response, but instead just quietly followed his ally back where they’d originally came from.
