Day 58: Intercom, Dawn

Aug 16, 2011 01:01

Dawn broke with the hustle and bustle of staff, uniformed men and women moving to and fro to wake patients from their slumber. Those who managed to slip through their watchful eyes and gain an extra minute or two of shuteye were soon rudely awakened by a rather enthusiastic man with a Western accent ( Read more... )

[ooc note: he already intro'd over NS, but I decided to write up a first DS post in addition to his breakfast post.]

Waking up once after the events of Ragnarok had been incredibly strange and nothing short of a miracle for Zero. So when he opened his eyes again, this time to a human yelling at him to get up, the red Reploid was more than a little surprised. He frowned at the sudden noise, barely half awake and completely confused.

Where was he now? He'd been walking down that dark hallway trying to figure out where to go when everything had gone dark without warning, ending his 'adventure' prematurely. Had he been attacked without realizing it? Had he run out of energy? ...Ah, perhaps it had really been a dream after all, and now he was waking up in a repair center somewhere. Understandable. None of what he'd seen had made any logical sense, after all. Not that finding himself alive after that massive explosion made any more sense, but someone would explain that to him soon, he was sure.

Wait, hold on. What did the man over the intercom just say?

Landel's Institute? All soldiers report to the cafeteria?

All at once, Zero snapped to his senses and jumped out of the bed he'd been laying in. What was going...huh? He was in the same room he had woken up in before. Not only that, but the same uniform from earlier was still on his body with the same dogtags (hadn't he left those behind somewhere?). And to top it all off, he was still human.

All of it - the spider, the confusing building, everything - it hadn't been a dream. But how?!

"I won't say it again," the human soldier at the door ordered impatiently, interrupting Zero's thoughts. "Get your beret on and get out here, now."

Zero didn't move, preferring instead to stare at the soldier with an expression to match his irritation. "What's going on here?"

"'What's going on here' is you have five seconds to get moving, or you're going on report."

What's with all the hostility? His first instinct was to keep resisting the man's orders until he got his answers. On second thought, though, that behavior wouldn't get him anywhere. He was still human, after all, and therefore defenseless against this soldier who was clearly armed. If that encounter with the spider last night had been any indication, it was that this new body of his was nowhere near as strong or agile as Zero's previous one. And if this wasn't a dream after all, then his survival was of some greater importance than it had been before.

After a moment's pause, the Reploid-now-human-again did as he was told, although an annoyed expression remained on his face as he did so. Sometimes submitting to your enemy was a step towards gaining the knowledge to defeat them. At the very least, he hoped they would be willing to explain themselves if he cooperated a little.
