The moment Anise tripped and let out a cry, Claude's heart jumped into his throat, his grip tightening on his weapon. "Anise!" Immediately, he lunged after her, losing his own balance in the process. "W-woah!" Before he could fully register what had happened, he found himself slipping down the same steep incline.

Instinctively, he scrambled to dig his hands, feet and sword into the ground to keep himself from going out of control. Between the gloves, blade and Federation-issue shoes, he managed to bring himself to a halt. Cold beads of sweat clung to the back of his neck as he stared into the impossibly dark area in front of them. "Geez..." He hadn't expected the ground to be so unstable!

Swallowing hard, Claude strained to see. He caught sight of the girl's light, and was actually pretty relieved to hear her sound so irritated.

"Is everyone all right?" he called.

As the last one to enter, it took Guy a few seconds to realize what was even happening. The room was so dark and seemingly expansive that Anise's yelp of surprise echoed, and while Claude headed after her he was soon letting out a shocked noise himself. The sound of skidding and moving gravel made it clear what was going on, and so Guy did his best to slide down the incline with more grace than his friends ( ... )

Still being careful not to make any big movements, Anise dug the toes of her boots into the gravel. Once that was done, she was able to lift her upper body, supporting herself with her elbows. She set down her weapon in front of her, pressing it in a bit to keep it from sliding, then used her free hand to brush away the pebbles that had embedded themselves in her gloves and her jacket ( ... )

While it was kind of disconcerting to go forward on such steep ground, especially when they couldn't see much, Claude agreed that there wasn't much choice in the matter. They would just have to take it slow and watch each other's backs. Now that they were down to just one flashlight, though, their trip would probably prove tricky. At least the three of them were okay so far.

"All right," Claude said with a nod. "Let's take it slow from here, then." Shifting his weight a little here and there, he gradually began to make his way down, closer to Anise's position. The light they had wasn't as strong as the one Guy lost, but they just had to make do with what they had. With that in mind, he continued forward a little further, until he felt the heels of his shoes press against something more sturdy...and flat, for that matter.

"Hey, I think the ground is less steep down here!" he announced.
