Darling little brother had plans, plans Albedo had allowed more than he normally would. Perhaps it was the annoying creature who ignored him outright, or perhaps it was only that that hallway, and that location reminded Albedo of a certain girl, and a man, and a night he held in something close to regret. Let Nigredo have his agreements--the next

However, any change in mood was interrupted when the intercom came on. Zack wasn't too shocked to hear Aguilar speaking to them. Even if the man wanted to keep a distance from them, he had to also make it clear that he was still around, watching them and dictating whatever they went through. This announcement went above and beyond that, though. While Aguilar wasn't exactly reaching out to them, he was trying to argue that he saw them as humans rather than animals.
Regardless, it sounded like Zack could only make himself stand out if he had some of those pins. Granted, he was no longer in the business of jumping through hoops for people or doing things because he was ordered to, but he could also understand a good deal when he saw one. During his time here, he'd been following shadows -- listening to rumors and coming up with nothing. This, at least, was something solid. The man told them where to go, how to get there, and what to do.
Most likely? It was a trap. Still, Zack saw it as a test of his own. He wanted to see if Aguilar kept to his word. Even if the rankings and pins were all pointless, he still had the chance of getting a weapon out of it. Not that the short sword he had wasn't going to cut it, but it would be nice to have something he was more comfortable with.
He'd told himself that he would get somewhere tonight, but even then he hadn't had a real direction in mind. This gave him one, even if it meant eating out of Aguilar's hand. If anything, this could give an insight into what the general's aims were. It might even be possible to kiss up to him eventually and work a way out that way. That didn't sit well with Zack, but he wasn't against lowering himself it meant getting his friends back home.
As for himself, well... he'd figure that part out later.
"Looks like you might have just gotten a great clue for where to get your supplies," Zack remarked to Phoenix. In fact, it would have benefited them to walk over there together, but Zack wasn't even willing to do that. He'd get there on his own, he'd take the drugs on his own, he'd handle the consequences on his own. That was it.
Not giving any indication to where he was going, Zack changed from the gray pajamas into the military uniform they'd been given two days ago. Once he'd zipped up the boots, he moved over to the metal box and grabbed the short sword that was propped next to it. "Oh, and if you need of a weapon, you can borrow my pry bar," he informed his roommate, pulling it out as well and setting it on his bed in case Phoenix wanted it. As for himself, he also grabbed his flashlight and radio.
"I'll see you tomorrow, all right? Take care, and thanks again," he said by way of goodbye before turning to the door with his usual determination. No, if anything he was even more eager than he had been before now. Nodding to himself, he stepped out the door and marched down the hall.

And with that, his roommate had left - and Phoenix was left with the silence of the room. With the way Zack had left, it had been clear that partially his eagerness had been motivated by whatever had been pushing him prior - but now, there was something even more - those pins had clearly been stated as a key to gaining what they all wanted, whether it was freedom or extra privileges - and the idea of them tempted him as well, if only so he could get closer to the truth. However, from the way Aguilar had made them sound...whatever concoction it was seemed dangerous and experimental, and Phoenix was unsure if they were worth the risk or the pin, especially when it was unclear of what scale of judgment the pins landed on as to their benefits.
I'll mention it to Edgeworth, Phoenix thought to himself, as he moved to the head of his bed, picking up his flashlight and turning it on before pulling one of the pillows out of the pillowcases and tucking half of the thick pouch of material under the elastic of his sweatpants. Even if we go and kill monsters for pins instead…either way, we're risking our lives.
Before leaving, Phoenix made a point of layering a sweatshirt over his t-shirt, along with the coat that was hanging in the closet. If Edgeworth had been silly enough to forget again, Phoenix wanted to be well-prepared. He also found a pair of boots, which he quickly discarded his slippers for, and he sat down upon the bed for a moment to pull them on. It was strange - he'd never thought about his life in the terms of survival against a bunch of monsters, and had almost taken that freedom for granted - but now that he had to address it, Phoenix was taking no chances.
Nabbing the crowbar from the sheets, Phoenix swept the beam of his flashlight over the room once more to make sure he wasn't missing anything, and made his way out the door.
