( Continued from here)

Jack glanced back bitterly at the doorway. "Hospital", the nurse had said. Well, that was fine and dandy if he were sick, but he felt perfectly healthy. Besides, it's not like he ever had to worry about healing anymore, since he had become the most powerful Fable.

And she wouldn't even deign to answer his questions when he asked her what exactly was wrong with him then. Simply that he was "unwell" and that his "family" was waiting. She might have said more, Jack acknowledged, but he hadn't been listening particularly closely to the words coming out of her mouth. Hospital, huh?

Well, if he was sick with anything, it wasn't showing. He glanced around the cafeteria he was now standing in and noted it was quite empty. Sure, there were a couple of people scattered around (in the same attire, he noted), but they didn't seem to be particularly "unwell" either (weird looking, maybe).

Unless...this was a mental institution.

Jack sneered. That made much more sense and seemed much more Revise's style. But why bother leaving him at the mercy of the Mundy when Revise was more than willing to punish Jack himself? That's what didn't make any sense and continued to plague the Fable with doubt. If this was Revise's work (and who else could have been responsible?), why was Jack not in a more...precarious situation?

'No matter,' Jack thought, casually throwing together a meal, 'No Mundy can hold JACK HORNER captive for long. I'm not so easily brushed aside...'

But now was not the time to escape. He would need the element of surprise and he was still rather unfamilar as to where he was. No matter, he could just ask one of these other..."fine" people. Scanning the room, Jack looked for a potential mark to solicit for information.

Haku smiled and nodded his head to the nurse escorting him to lunch. He wasn't really listening, but he did visibly pale at actually seeing the food he was being offered. The nurse must have taken it for a sign of weakness, for she suddenly became concerned for 'poor Chris' health. Especially after fainting this morning. Tsk tsk.' Assuring her he was fine, Haku took a salad and fruit instead. He had to work on following Zabuza-san's order to actually eat.

Odd how he hadn't noticed any problems before.

Spotting someone who looked far more confident than he should, Haku put on his best happy, friendly smile and walked over.

"Hi! May I join you?"

Jack turned to the voice. Ah, some chick. While he couldn't deny his irresistable appeal to the ladies (they knew a sexy man when they saw one, as he often assured himself), he usually favored the attention of more voluptuous sorts. Why couldn't one of them approach him? Well, it wasn't as if he had seen any hot babes yet. He would have to settle for this one at the moment.

Didn't mean he had to be particularly polite.

"Yeah, whatever," He looked at her again. Same outfit as him. Probably meant she was crazy. Just his luck that another psycho woman would be all over him. So long as she wasn't another Goldilocks, he could probably tolerate her. "What is this place?" He had already determined that it was most likely a looney-bin, but he still held out for the slight chance that he had been mistaken.

Haku beamed and sat down. Oh this could prove, at the least, entertaining.

"It's called Landel's Mental Institution, but it's not a hospital at all," he said in response, considering the man for a moment.

"You must be new." He bowed his head slightly in greeting, then smiled happily up at the blond man. You could almost see the little hearts.

"You're in a prison ... of sorts." He shrugged.

Jack cocked his head. Not a hospital, but a prison? He took in his surroundings. The nurses and staff certainly didn't LOOK like they would pose any sort of threat when he decided to leave (which he had already decided would be as soon as he was ushered out alone). This little girl was delusional.

"No, I'm pretty sure this is your run-of-the-mill psyche ward. But you keep on dreaming your prison dreams, babe."

Haku brought up a hand and laughed softly behind it. "I'm sorry to say it's true," he said.

"You were given a new name upon waking, and they will tell you all about your 'life' should you care to ask." Haku smiled again and reached up to brush his hair back, bringing the bandages on his face into view. "Of course, you might want to be careful when and whom you ask."

He paused, then sighed, face turning down and hair again covering the white cloth. His voice took on a sincere sad tone. "I know it sounds strange. You don't believe me." He contemplated sniffling a bit, but that was pushing it too far right now.

A new name? Stupid crazy Mundy. What was she talking about? Still didn't change the fact that she appeared to be injured. Probably did it to herself in some delusion. Jack rolled his eyes. This kid was annoying him. Why couldn't he have encountered some hot nypho chick? At least spending time with HER would have made passing the brief time until he decided to take his leave more...enjoyable.

"Not particularly, no," Jack looked about the room again, not really hiding his disinterest in Haku. Wasn't there an OLDER woman he could be chatting the panties off right now? "But if it helps you sleep at night, I won't shatter your dreams."

Haku sighed and shook his head. What a total moron. Changing his entire demeanor (if not his feminine mannerisms ... this man seemed to respond to that at least), Haku leaned back in the chair and crossed his arms across his chest and crossed his legs, knee over knee.

"Look," he said, pitching his voice to still sound feminine, but also more in-control and less vapid. "I don't really care if you believe me or not." He sighed and looked out over the room. "But I'm going to tell you what everyone else here will. You are trapped. This isn't a hospital," he was ticking the list off on his fingers.

"And anything that you think makes you special and powerful," he looked Jack up and down, "and it's obvious you think you're god's gift to life itself, is either gone or severely limited here."

He shrugged. "But, again, I doubt you'll believe me. So feel free to ask someone else or you can just wait until nightfall and see for yourself."

Jack sneered. This girl was trying his nerves. Sure, she didn't know how truely powerful he was, anything he had done, or who he was, but Jack would have thought she would have had the common sense to recognize his greatness. "Look, little girl- you should feel HONORED I've even bothered talking you. Most people would be shittin' themselves to just know they are in the same room as me." Even if he couldn't identify himself as a Fable, there was no way she hadn't encountered some aspect of those films he had managed to make. She would soon realize the folly in her ways.

"Really," Haku couldn't even muster up the energy to appear impressed. This man needed to be taken down a peg. "I have no reason to show you honor of any sort," he said. "As far as I can see, you are an arrogant, hot-headed, over-confident man." He raised his visible eyebrow.

"I've yet to be impressed by anything you've said or done." He smiled slightly. "As far as I can tell, you're too busy trying to find someone here that can entertain you to realize you're even in trouble."

"And YOU'RE an annoying, flat chested, psychotic little bitch. Don't you have some drugs you could be taking rather than pissin' me off?" This one, Jack thought, might not be as deadset on killing him as Goldilocks was, but she definately prattled on like her. And at least he had been getting sex out of dealing with Goldilocks.

He couldn't wait to simply waltz out of here when finished with his lunch. That would show this cunt. Not that she was even worth one upping. He was Jack of the goddamn Tales. The greatest Fable ever, by his own making no less! There was no place- Fable, Mundy, or otherwise- that could ever keep HIM captive.

Haku blinked. Then smiled. "When you do try to walk out of here," he said, voice laced through with poison. "Let me know how that works out."

Flat-chested. Really. Of course he was. But the point remained that he now knew exactly what this man responded to, what buttons to push, and how to manipulate him to do what he wanted.... to a point.

"In fact," he said. "Why not give it a go right now? And when you fail, as I know for a fact you will, come find me. I'll probably be the only person here willing to assist you." Even those here that were completely good people probably wouldn't be able to handle this man for more than a few minutes. Haku was used to people like him.

He wasn't as unique as he thought he was.

Jack HAD been intending to wait on making his escape. He had already determined that he had been sent to this place by one of his many enemies (most likely Revise, though that didn't mean someone else couldn't be behind it), so he doubted that arguing his case would accomplish anything. That's why he had already made up his mind to leave when left alone with a nurse. Like some woman would be able stop him when he punched her in the head- he was Jack Horner, giant killer and all around bad ass.

Haku's words, however, enraged him into acting earlier than planned. If that little girl was so keen on proving him wrong, he would show her the kind of man he was. "Why not?" He sneered back, hopping to his feet and moving from the table. "I was only hanging about for the free food anyhow."

Jack stalked up to the doorway and approached the staff. "Hey," he snapped, "I don't belong here, so I'm not staying. Do you wanna give my things back before I go?"

The Nurse had been watching over her patients as usual, but she smiled as one of them approached her. Of course his demeanor hardly proved to be threatening, the woman already quite seasoned in her job. Jack hadn't been the first one to try this, of course.

"Mr. Trick, please lower your voice and take your seat. You wouldn't want to start up a commotion, now do you?" She chided, that cheery smile still on her face.

Haku watched the man approch a nurse and promtly be turned down in his demands. He knew it wouldn't stop there and he wanted to see how far this would go....

It would be fun.

Jack smirked and flashed the nurse a playful smile. "I'm not looking to cause a commotion. I just wanted to know if I could have my suitcase and personal belongings back before I walk out that door. If that's too much to ask, don't bother with it."

He glanced back toward Haku. Good. She was watching. Jack smirk inwardly. He was about to show her just how easy it was for him to solve his problems.
