He moved down the hall to the correct door while exchanging thoughts with his brother. 'I fell' was not a valid excuse, even if it had to be at least partially true. His insecurity fled by way of doubtful sardonics, and he gave a mental eyebrow raise to his sibling. Nigredo insisted it was the fault of another, and there was enough anger in it for Albedo to let it slip by. Keep it to question further, but allow the explanation.

He sent a location query as he halted in front of Nigredo's door, shifting the sword to grip the blade. Blood dripped instantly, and nonchalant, he slid the sword under his arm while placing the ring under his hand. Nigredo replied downstairs, which gave the basement. He frowned to himself, wondering why.

...And a second later, sent more fiercely. {You went without me!} Despite promising to take Albedo if Nigredo went. He glared at Nigredo's door. The reply was annoying in itself, more for the content and less for the sender.

{...I really don't know. I was sleeping when night started. Then suddenly, I'm in the basement with a few others.} There was something of annoyance in the give. {Probably something to do with the institute.}

There was a beat, then Albedo responded. Was Nigredo okay? Did he want Albedo to come there? As he asked, Albedo's stomach flipped. It was a matter of preference, and preference was split--he would gladly go to Nigredo if asked, but just as well, right now, he would....

{I'll be fine. These people were lucky enough to have their things so we're not completely defenseless. You don't have to come down for now.}

It wasn't relief or disappointment he felt. It was closer to nothing. They exchanged words to be careful, Albedo finding it briefly ironic, and the connection dulled.

He realized the cut on his hand had sealed. Glancing down, there was a red gem where only metal had been.

One thing done.
